The numbers on the rolls is what you rolled vs what you have to roll to hit.

@@GamekNightPlays On that 17 vs AC which was 20, you were prob getting +2 from your Dex, but lost it due to being flat-footed when they attacked, so it dropped to 18. Just a guess.

@@mckhick yeah, it is essentailly the number you rolled (without any modifiers) vs. whatever you needed to roll to succeed. So if you succeed on a 15+ it will show you what you actually rolled vs. that 15

I think it should show the correct numbers, roll+modifiers vs target+modifiers. Otherwise it feels redundant

@@GamekNightPlays i think they made it that way so you can instantly see what the dice roll was (especially for crits). in the second example roll+modifiers vs target+modifiers it would've shown 6 vs 9 without you being aware of the critical miss. of course in that case it wasn't that important, but in other cases you might suffer some kind of backlash like hurting your own char etc.. that's why they made it: roll vs (armor calls - attack bonus).

Yea but there's a special appeal in buffing your 2H fighter to shit and watching him just auto delete the entire map.

I'm so glad they chose to let you switch between real time and turn based on a whim because there are plenty of easier fights that might turn into a drag if it was all turn based. That's why I never made a turn based playthrough of Pillars of Eternity 2 because you had to commit to one or he other when starting a new game.

I understand but unfortunately, you've lost an amazing experience due to that choice. As someone who had finished both POE 1 and Divinity 2, The turn-based mode on POE 2 is simply my favourite. By a long shot. POE1 loses strategy and tacticality due to RTS and Divinity 2 has this annoying armour system which constraints party and skill options extremely as a whole. Especially by the last 40% of the game, Dos 2 becomes really repetitive. POE 2 has a perfect turn based mode where strategy is applied due to high variety of spells and skills while retaining high quality quests. I don't consider someone to have truly experienced POE2 without the turn based mode. Maybe consider a second run on turn based in the future :)

@@Arda-dq4rt If you didn't like the amour system, there is always DOS 1. I wouldn't say that the amour systems constraints skill options, If anything, it incentivize players to have balanced team comps, both physical and magical and eliminate the perma CC strategy in DOS1, which make CC focused comps a bit too OP compared to others. Moreover, the amour system also work to protect you as well, there were several battle in DOS1 that was frustrating on higher difficulty because of the amount of CC that enemies have. POE 2 fights are a lot more repetitive and longer than DOS2, imo. The fight at Hasonga, for example, you repeat combats against groups of naga, over and over again. Another thing I didn't like with POE 2 is the class resources, which make long fights very tedious once the resources run out. The mega bosses fights or the endurance trials in the crucial for example. My team with a paladin, fighter, wizard ,priest and ranger, has very limited number of skills and spells that I can use. Once used up, I had to just grind normal attacks repeatedly until the battle is over, not nearly as enjoyable as DOS 2 where you get to use abilities as long as you're alive and simply have to wait for its cooldown. I then had to ration the spells for important moments, which also make large portion of those long fights very boring. The action point system in DOS also allows deeper strategic plays in turnbased, you can save up AP, skip a turn to wait for your character to get buffed, while also saving AP, and the enemy, on the other hand, has to waste AP to come to you instead. in POE2, if you skip the turn, you basically waste it. Moreover, character can be built so that they can generate more AP or consume less AP, which is a nice way to implement character's speed into turn-base. in POE2, the dexterity stats become kinda useless as action speed is converted to initiative, which doesn't matter that much in longer fights. Moreover, speaking only about combat. The interactions between elements and surroundings is one of the most unique and fun mechanics that the game has, which for me, set DOS games apart from everything else I've played.

@@thanhdohuu9473 Right. I havent played DOS1. DOS 2 had deep strategy to its battles. I really enjoyed the final boss as well. But the game's pacing drags on a lot and I dont find its skills too varied after seeing POE 2. If I ever get bored with my initial team, I can build a second one with new strategies in POE 2. You can also respec characters in dos 2 but It is a lot more hassle with buying new skill books and learning etc. I feel like with multiclassing in POE2, I have a lot of variety and options I didnt have in DOS2 where the main strategy eventually becomes "teleport enemeies and spam physical attacks efficiently" while Serafan can charm a challenging mini boss and giving you the opportunity hit deal with his minions and use Eder to give a bleed attack that eventually kills the boss by damaging it every turn. The game is really full of strategies once you are playing it on veteran. Tried path of the damned in the beginning of the game...got my ass handed to me :D I wish there was a difficulty option between PotD and Veteran

Honestly turn based VASTLY improved this game with the mod. I played pathfinder in pen and paper and was used to the rules played out that way. This implementation is very clean and i like it. The mod was great, but clunky due to limitation of the system. Happy to see official support and your clean explanation and show case of it, but you did say something about enemy health bars and you never elaborated on why you have it on i do have a guess though. It shows the health bars on the top for enemies and allies next to the icons, but that is a guess.

Actually, the tooltip states that the health bars would show over their heads, but it never did. It does show at the top as you said however :) Thank you for the kind words!

There mod was better :) more options. You can't move through friendly spaces in this one. You currently can't 5' step and full attack. Classic owlcat.

@@Littlebob1986 That is two things, and i didn't test enough to notice it. Thanks for letting me know, but honestly i would RATHER have this version and mods to fix those than the mod. The only reason is I encountered MANY flaws. For instance anytime an event happened right after combat I would be stuck in a pause loop and would have to reload my game. Sometimes I would move when i didn't want to because, again clunky, and due to it not displaying the path you take you don't know exactly where you walk and over what. To say classic owlcat, an indie company that had this kickstarted, as an insult seems excessive as they have done the best they can to improve their game still for free long after it's release. Now I don't know what other options you speak of, but seems to me walking through allies isn't that big of a deal, but yes you should be able to. though I agree the 5' step should be fixed, but it has only been a couple of days so let them address these problems. they are implementing a system that the game was not designed to support so criticizing them over trying to do this seems kinda harsh. I would love to know what other features this lacks that the mod had as I, again, haven't tested it fully. As far as I can tell I is very clean, works better than the mod and has a better overlay only because it is official. Granted I do agree this should have been from the start, but they had a different vision of play and I respect that. Edit: So i just, quite literally, tested the 5' step and full via a magus and spell combat. It works as supposed to. I 5' step then cast a spell (Shield) then did my attack. Again, I find not moving through allies that big of a deal in a video game form, but a mod can fix that.

Oh now this is excellent news! I much prefer Turn Based to Real time with Pause as I personally feel that RtwP is far too chaotic for me and it puts me off playing Kingmaker and other party based cRPGs that exclusively use RtwP. The mod was great and all but it's always good to see an official release, UI looks decent too

Finally, my dreams came true! Turn-based mode is the key of this game. I waited for this game mode for a long time. It's great, because they allow you to plan your strategies. I can imagine playing with the Warpriest, Summoner, and Cavalier in this game mode in future expansions. And, of course, great video Game kNiht! :D Sorry for my bad english :/

El Sin Nombre I felt the same way - I have played through the game with turn-based because of the mod, but this is a lot better! Can't wait for the next game, Wrath of the Righteous either! Your English was just fine! :)

@@GamekNightPlays Thanks for answering me! I read that Wrath of the Righteous adds the Arcanist, Bloodrager, Shaman, Oracle, and Witch, a new race and the mythic paths. They will add a lot of content! I hope that in their next expansion they add the Warpriest, Summoner, and Cavalier :D

Same - the turn-based mod made my interest in the game 100 times higher :) So happy they've gotten this in and that Wrath will have it as well!

It was driving me nuts, because I haven't played in a while - I was struggling with why the turn based mod would simply NOT activate! I was about to shelve the game again when I found this video. Thank goodness! I will *not* play this game without a Turn Based option. Early review, while different, the official support will work for my needs. Happy camper!

The 4 is the difference in between the DEF armor class and the ATT bonus. Here, armor class is 9, ATT bonus is +5, you must roll at least a 4 to hit. But you did 1 hence the 1 out of 4.

Ur problem was that your character was flat footed (-2 AC first round of combat before your character acts) as in pathfinder 1 rule setting says

hello, I have a question. I'm a bit confused. I can see that the definitive edition includes the turn based mod. Although it is only for Xbox & Ps4. I can not find the Definitive edition for PC & Mac. When I look on STEAM, it only shows the Enhanced version...which I'm not sure includes the turn based mod. Could you please help me ? It would be silly to spend money on the enhanced version if it doesn't includes the mod...Thanks

It is the Definitive Edition - they probably just didn't update the title. PC has the turn-based option as well :)

You may want to 5ft step to cast a spell or shoot your bow :8

Bit old, but for others wondering... 5-foot steps are a "free" action you can pair with a Full-Round Action. It's a Pathfinder thing. In Pathfinder, if you want to use all the attacks available in one turn (and some other actions/spells possibly) you need to use a Full-Round Action. This means you do nothing besides that and an optional 5-foot step, which won't provoke an Attack of Opportunity, and let's you close minor gaps, manuver for a Flank, or whatnot.

Nope, turn-based is in the new game! It is going to be awesome! Owlcatgames has challenged me to play last Azlanti on Normal and see how far I can get - coming in September :)

I usually like turn based but it wasn’t letting me do anything that took a standard action, and worse yet that didn’t go away when I turned turn based mode off so I lost my 30 hour save file. So not going to use it with my new character

17 vs 18= it rolled a 17 and needs an 18 to hit you. 18+2=20, it has a +2 to hit.

Sadly this doesn't work. I cannot attack. only action can be performed. I didn't turn it on until a fight with a giant humanoid orc

Turn based or real time? To me, turn based is superior, as it gives you time to make tactical decisions, real time is usually auto attacks and a huge mess :P Individual preference in the end though :)

The game has sooo many bugs. I'm not sure how it is on other platforms. But on Xbox it's so bad it's unplayable. Loudfinder,crashmaker

It had a lot of bugs, but most have been squashed. I've played over 200 hours of the game and haven't experienced a lot of issues.

It's SOOOOO bad on Xbox right now. Owl cat is just as bad as any other greedy game company. We get what we tolerate

The game crashed while resting, loading, saving, and just holding still to read something. The respec option does not work and glitches the loading screen. And I spent 3 hours dealing with loading screens when I got my barony. Not to mention I crashed 4 times just fighting the stag king

Really digging the game with turn-based mode. That written you can switch between TB mode & RTWP. This really helps when battling swarms of foes who happen to be scrubs.

One small correction, characters have one swift action per turn, and infinite free actions per turn.

Turn-based option got me to buy the game. So you're right, they should have done it from the get-go. Especially as the game is based on a boardgame which is obviously turn-based!

truly it s great to have a turn based, so i could uninstall the mod that allows turn based in unity mod manager. I only have one regret about the definitive : hair unlocker doesn't work anymore and since it s an old mod there will be no chance for an update, the same for ui extender :(( most of other mods works now :D

The mod was rather excellent ! But the integrated new mode works, is a big plus and is ported to Wrath of the Righteous.

When base attack bonus is 6,11,16,21 for 2,3,4,5 attacks per round (or dual-wielding) you must use a full-round action or you will only make one attack. That's where the 5-foot step comes in, it lets you move a short distance without consuming your move action (that is required for the full-round attack). 5-foot step also avoids any attacks of opportunity if enemies are in melee range when you move. www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat/ You can only ever cast one spell per round, but one swift/quickened spell (see their tooltip) can be cast in addition to this standard action.

Felt the same way when I saw this. This was becoming a bit of a retraction for me as the combat got more complex. I’ll definitely have to give it another go.

Hey could anyone tell me how to do a full round action as a Magus in the turn based mode. I have just started playing again and no matter what I do I can only attack with either my weapon or my spell as a standard action despite doing nothing else. Thank you for any and all help

Make sure you have spell combat active and that you are wielding a 1handed weapon with a free off hand. You should be able to cast a spell and attack in the same round after that. Do be mindful as casting the spell does provoke attack of opportunity.

They do take longer, but you gain a lot more control. The good thing is you can turn it off if you don't feel the need for it :)

I played my first turn based game, Divinity Original Sin 2, and was in love. Now I bought this one, but I really have no idea what these numbers mean and I am really not looking forward to learning math formulars for a video game

it may a little late but may be i can clear the odd armorclass nr out. the system from pathfinder pen/paper wich the turn mode is from the looks based of let you dont get your dex bonus(and dodge bonis) to your armor class if the attacked character hasnt have his first initiative actions.its even a state called "flat footed "

What I'm wanting to know is about game length. Turn-based usually makes the game take longer, but a lot of that is because they haven't tweaked the game to remove filler enemy encounters that are normally necessary in realtime mode to lengthen the experience. Is it 1:1 in turn-based or is it an improved experience? What's your take?

It is 1:1 - turn-based is great in some instances, in others not so much. Especially in the begining, where the encounters are usually easy and you don't have a lot of management with skills etc. Luckily, it is easy to turn turn-based mode on and off at the press of a button even during a combat. This makes it very good and I can't wait to get started proper!

Just without modifiers, so it isn't as useful :)

@@GamekNightPlays You still know what sort of percentage the enemy will hit you, though that again will vary whether you're being flanked or not or what sort of buffs or debuffs have been applied. Doesn't all of that show up in the log though?

Yeah, in the log it does, but it should show in the roll imho :) Small thing though

So an option to toggle between showing the roll needed without modifiers (current setup), to a display of modified roll vs AC would be a neat option do you think?
