We take a look at the Pathfinder Remaster book, GM Core, from the perspective of an existing and new Pathfinder Game Master. What sections are of high value? Is it good for World building or combat crunch? Should you buy the book? Is it worth it?

very well said about the social protocol section. I appreciate this. Great video overview thank you.

Thanks. It's not easy subject to discuss in the modern world as many folks are sometimes prone to making assumptions without actually listening to the concern.

GM Core is a superb world, campaign building and populating book, but don't look for expansive combat information as this all exists in Player Core.

Having ran Pathfinder 2e for a while now (2+ years), I do have a question about what you said that interests me as well: What would you do with the Crafting system? How would you change it? Would you eliminate it all together? I mean, to make it less like Diablo. 👍 Thanks for the opinions here, and I liked your video...tou can really talk fast and cover it fast, but pretty well. 😊

Hey there! For me personally, I love the excitement of rewarding players with magic items as opposed to crafting anything. This is because I'm and old school Advanced Dungeons & Dragons player and DM. In a P2E game, you'll need to make sure players are gaining enough to hit and damage goodies as if they crafted them if you plan on using Bestiary enemies.

@@Classic_DM Totally agree, and so am I, but I'm interested in how it could be tweaked to get it at least a little closer to AD&D-style. Thnx 👊

very often when people come from 5th dnd they never use the abilities of the characters because they don't get the action economy.

Good point. As a spell caster, you just cast and kite, since 1 actions are useless.

I got to the table of contents and paused the video to read all the contents. I thought, "ok, I really just want chapter 3, not sure I care about the rest". But then I unpause and listen and it sounds like it's just filler..? Basically what I thought I would need to be a good GM is lore background

Hopefully I saved you $20 on the PDF. There is enough lore in Pathfinder 1 to last a lifetime.

Another reason why the recommendations around edgy content exist in the book is because a *lot* of old adventures out there leaned into these topics to an excessive amount. People get a laugh or a cheap thrill out of inserting edgy topics, tropes, and characters into their games, and module writers -- and especially 3rd party module writers -- often leaned into these ideas much too hard, adding them superfluously, rather than with consideration. Some of those were probably even written by the authors of and contributors to this book. So, it's a way of passing on a learned and earned bit of sober second thought around these things.

Hopefully so. Even the PF1 GM guide has this.

Oh no! People could actually talk about things back then before the whiny liberal Horde took over our community!

Honestly, considering the sheer number of horror stories I've heard from friends over the years about creepy GMs running campaigns about either weird sex stuff, or worse, the content recommendation section is good to have. At least it guides newer players in knowing that those campaigns are NOT normal, and they should probably disengage (and hopefully cut down on future GMs following in their footsteps).

Well said. Rather sad that so many folks lack the basics of the human condition and dignity.

Do you really need a virtue signaling screed at the beginning of a fucking book to have basic common sense? Does the book need to tell you how to tie your shoes and say no to strangers as well?

Maybe one should look at their friend group then, because I have gamed for over 15 years, back before all these trigger warnings and 'safety' cards, and I have never, EVER played in a game with a GM that tried any of that stuff. Never any explicit fetish or sex stuff, no rape, nothing like that. If you're going to play with creeps, they're going to run creepy games. Maybe choose your friends better.
