The GeoPress also fits nicely into the $15 Stanley 2-cup cook pot. Plus, the Stanley will then fit into Walmart's $5 steel cup, and the Stanley lid fits that cup as well.

I just have a hard time thinking I have to invest over $20 in that stuff. I appreciate the fact that everything nests into everything else. What’s the summer Thrifter and see all sorts of stuff at garage sales and thrift stores I just can’t pull the trigger for 20 bucks.😂😮

I’ve had a Geopress for several years. I’ve always nested it inside my SRO small pot that comes with their water bottle kit. It also fits the Bescargot titanium French press pot, as well as many others. Versatility in any kit is key.

I guess I need a Grayl GeoPress now too. Thanks for making these videos, I've purchased a few items you've spotlighted and have been very happy with them. I started making alcohol stoves from Venom Energy bottles 20ish years ago and now I buy stoves made in Australia, crazy.

I have one of these cups and it’s great, very sturdy but also kinda heavy, I never used to worry about weight but now with some injuries I’m trying to cut that down as much as possible. If pathfinder would make one in titanium that would be fantastic. I don’t trust the titanium grayl because if you drop it and dent it I would have to think that it would not function as it’s supposed to.
@wolfeadventures11 ай бұрын
That sealing o-ring on the filter seems like a high wear and possible failure point.
@gregorykinase97187 ай бұрын
was thinking the same thing. Also looks like the cup will easily fall off the heater rack. maybe a side folding rack to give the bottom more purchase rather than sitting on a few millimeters of surface area.

Hey Doc, I've had the Geo Ultra for 2 years, on account of your review. I saw this product released and thought it a great idea, however, I'm more intrigued by the idea of being able to have an all in one, as you eluded to, so, my vote is yes, get the Grayl version and let's see it in action! Please and thank you, great content as always. God Bless you!

One thing I would b hesitant about, from the perspective of someone who uses a Stanley Two-Cup almost exclusively, is that a tall narrow cup could be a hazard in certain situations depending on how stable your stove is. I would have zero qualms sticking this on a stable stove not prone to tipping (your debris stove seemed fine, next to a campfire would be fine. I would be wary of putting this on a canister stove). I don't think it's a bad product, would be happy to add this to my collection, but it might not be ideal in all conditions (e.g., wind) with all types of stoves.

Big concern about the titanium Grayl. If dented on the trail the single walled vessel would compromise the tight tolerances of the filter.

Geopress is awesome. I use mine every single day. I drive a truck for a living, and water and coffee are all I drink, and buying water from truck stops is way too expensive. Plus tap water in most places is suspect at best. I do 24 hour intermittent fasting and it really really heightens your sense of taste to where you can taste chemicals in bottled water so I just take gallon jugs and refill them the water from the geopress is the best and most cost effective in the long term
@paulellsworth767911 ай бұрын
At $50,000 to filter the same amount of water as a $30 sawyer squeeze, I couldn't disagree with more if I tried. How do you justify saying it is the most cost effective?

I can use a sock, skivvies or tshirt to filter crap outta the water but it still needs to be boiled to purify it. If the Grayl only purified.😊

While the Grayl is interesting and a cool idea, for the amount of hiking I do, the price just isn’t worth it when there are cheaper alternatives. However, excellent video as always.

Question about nesting... If you dip your Grayl into "dirty" water to fill it before filtering, doesn't the outside of the bottle remain contaminated? So wouldn't putting it inside your nesting cup technically / potentially transfer contaminates to the cup?

Did you open the lid all the way up or loosen it while pressing the filter part of the Grayl? You seemed to be battling down the inner portion. Pressing while the lid is sealed is a pain, some instruction videos I watched guides you to use the lid opened.

The Geopress system is not my first choice for lightweight backcountry travel due to its bulky and heavy design. The cartridge life is minimal, and refills are quite costly. Based on these con, I find this system provides a relatively low value for the price.

I'm sure that the pathfinder cup is a quality product. And it's a great price point for stainless. But the Grayl water filter is stupid! I guess it's fine for people who want PRETEND to need water filtered. The cost is only reasonable for individuals what have no need for clean water and want to look pretentiously SPECIAL to everyone else. A 50 cents per gallon, as a practicing physician you don't make enough money to afford a Grayl for long term water filtration. For example... to filter the same amount of water as a $30 sawyer squeeze the grayl would cost more than $50,000 $50,000! Are you freaking kidding me! Yep $30 for a Sawyer squeeze.... $50,000 for a grayl... What if you needed a water filter to hike the Appalachian trail? Well that would cost you $30 with a sawyer squeeze. How much for a Grayl? At 5 times the weight a Grayl would only cost you 10 times as much!
