I know you don't like oracles, but I have to say, your ember build is very similar to my Daeran build. I give him second mystery fire for his first mythic ability and then focus everything into spell focus evocation and fire magic. He gets free healing spells just for leveling up so I dont even have to think about it that much.

I really liked to dip Cross blooded sorcerer - Fire Elemental because make all damaging spells into fire damage and with Ascended Fire, nothing would be imune to your spells.

converted spells aren't affected by any non-mythic fire related feats though and from the end game spells only Polar Midnight worth the conversion to be honest.

@@lostsoulltd I agree. Better to use the dragon bloodlines to pump up her damage more. And throw on a salamander ring to improve her fire spell selection.

Love the build sofar but it frustrates me to no end that you don't explain any of the Witch path selections. All those hex's I've had to just guess what that are.

Thanks Mortismal ! I was always interested in your companion builds but thought you wouldn't have time for it so didn't bother asking. Would you consider doing one for Nenio as well? Edit: if not requested enough, that's fine. I'll catch up on the last Azlanti streams.

Build for Nenio he has on competition is fine, but needs gear optimisation for Hard difficulty (should work on Core though)

Wizard 10/Cleric 3/Mystic Theurge 7 is a really strong buff bot build as Scroll Savant and the ready availability of protection scrolls help to mitigate her opposition schools. This also leaves a ton of spell slots for Hideous Laughter, Phantasmal Killer, and Weird.

@@ThePewace for technical reasons (translation is not always direct and i don't play the game on english and some of the items already replaced) i won't be able to do entire progression, but here's what Mort was missing for sure: Goggles of Pure Sight (can be bought in act 3, Jewelry merchant in Drezen), Robe of Inevitability (iirc can be bought in act 2 in the camp), Gloves of the Neophyte ( act 1, from bartender) since she uses magic missiles often and they can boost it up to 150 dmg on max roll, and for the same reason of Illusion not being able to hit some targets all summoning stuff for consumables slot (Book of Dreams, Tankard of Free Spirit, Duality thingie) + add some shadow conjuration to prepared spells, also there are strong illusion focused bracers in Enigma behind ridiculous perception check (around 60), but i failed to get them on this save, though have them on another which i can't load on laptop (out of cloud saves space on GoG...), so can't say their name.

I've been pumping all my gold into ember, in act 2 at lvl 10 she can do about 1/2 to 3/4 of the entire enemy groups hp before my melee even get into combat... she's op

Sorcerous Reflex allows you to cast TWO of this demon annihilators at the beginning of each combat. And Azata Mythic Path allows you to target TWO enemies at once with every spell that usually affects one creature. That is insane. Someone should make a PC pyromaniac and make them an Azata

I currently play a sage sorcerer azata, and let me tell you, zippy + lvl 6 chain lightning + maximize chain lightning in 1 round is super busted. You basically delete a whole crowd of enemy before they hit you. Still don't get why zippy works with chain lightning, but it's busted so I don't complain.

@@rethomore Ascended element fixes it, you will suffer a bit during act 1 though before you get 1st mythic level

@trash panda 9000 you get ascended element electricity and it fixes the problem. You could also get a unique bracer in wintersun that converts all your energy damage into electricity so there's no resistance possible for electricity damage.

BolshyPlays has a nice build focused on protective hexes, conjuration like heals and summon, and metamagic to make cc better, also 2 dip of chirurgeon for cognatogen Its nice but already have too many in melee with melee mc, 2 pets and a drovier druid with summons so ill try this instead and leave that one for another run

Combat casting is definitely not worth it, at least in turn-based mode. You can usually get out of threatened range by making a 5 foot step and casting a spell. Being distracted is pretty rare from my experience.

decent amount of late game enemies have size bonus to reach and thus turning their opportunity attack range to 7-10 ft

you can actually pick up hellfire ray as a level 6 spell and then you get it automatically as a level 7 spell, so you can get a lot of uses out of it

Spells that shoot projectiles are considered ranged touch attacks and benefit from a lot of the ranged feats

one thing I don't like about Ember (and this build is crippled by this flaw) is that she gets -4 to hit. and you can really feel that -4 on core and above so i would rather put her on arcane trickster so she can do more dmg with aoe spells or focus on other things that don't require to hit rolls like summons or hexes

The -4 to hit should only be with weapons? While you can get "weapon focus ray" a ray is not considered a weapon and it shouldn't affect her spell rolls

@@BagleNinja certain spells either require attack rolls or ranged touch attack rolls. It's why casters take precise shot.

in early game yes, but later it turns into -2 and with all gear and stat improvements can be completely disregarded.

@@oli5210 yeah I said that. But they aren't weapon attacks and shouldn't be affected by her curse. At the very least I didn't notice them being affected but I guess I'll double check when I boot up the game

No you don't. It drops to -2 by the time he starts doing that. And she attacks Touch AC. If it's really a concern, give her WF: Ray, and this is all but negated. Now, hexes are wonderful, don't get me wrong. I use them all game. But taking her out of witch is just bad. And using a spontaneous caster as an Arcane Trickster is doubly bad, because now you've lost 2 levels of spell progression. No multiclass is worth that trade.

Ran a very similar build but ember was also main dispel magic user with the dispel feats and the goggles that let u take 20 on dispels. She also 1shot the undead dragon in act 5 with hellfire ray being empower maximized by a rod. Got 2 crits but was insane.

Some possible improvements: 1st (and most important) - Flame Salamander ring, which will give all AoE fire spells (fireball, controlled fireball, firestorm) to Ember and also adds tier6 version (with same dmg/difficulty) of Hellfire Ray. For those who don't know how to get it - from the priest in your camps hospital tent in act 2 (iirc for 36k gold) and from Arsinoe in act 3 (you actually can buy it 2nd time there if needed); 2nd - Hexes - Evil Eye, Cackle, Fortune/Misfortune/Protective luck (whatever of those is better each can decide on their own). Only support hexes that really worth it are Beast's Gift into Bite, for some animal companions into Claws (but only if you have meeles without access to bite from anywhere else and\or have animal companions without bite or claws attacks) and Regenerative Sinew (helps with stat damage curing earlier and remains useful for fast healing prebuff on melees later). 3rd - Elemental focus feats for fire. I think you can get without them on Core and below, but on hard they are very useful. 4th - in the end of her quest chain Ember gets one of 3 tier 9 spells, depending on your choices in conversations with her. Control spell for NG (technically let her do whatever she does), holy+fire damage AoE resembling Fire Storm for LG (support what she does, but when possible remind her that not everyone deserves to be saved) , and sort of AoE Cleanse for CG (quite tricky to get it though and will require entire wall of text to explain, so i'll skip it). For this build LG spell is optimal, because burn effect from it stacks with burn from Fire Storm. 5th - Sorcerous Reflex mythic feat, but closer to the end of act 4 (on mythic lvl 6 or 7), especially useful if you play mostly in turn-based. Combine it with maximised matamagic rod and start combat from sneak attack to get free turn and some toughter enemies can be dealt with without even taking damage. Also one thing that Mort forgot to mention and some people may miss it, Mallanders Insult must be activated to apply its bonus damage (will appear in abilities tab above main quick bar). And don't miss Fire Robes in the very start of act 5 during Drezen retaking - just loot every container you see (no perception check needed for them).

Quick word to the wise. At Mythic Rank 6 or 8, take Expanded Arsenal Conjuration and pick up the spell Cave Fangs. This will add all of you buffs for Evocation to your Conjuration spells making Cave Fangs just about the most effective means of dealing with high SR enemies in Act 5, as it does not have to check SR. It also turns Ember into instant death for anything even remotely undead.

I'm not sure what kind of SR act 5 enemies have, since I'm still in act 4. But my Ember had 34 spell penetration at level 13, lol. So she had room to easily get up to 40 by act 5. I feel like this suggestion is a bit unfortunate, because even though it's good, Ember doesn't get any other decent conjuration spells to go along with it. Also, the wiki says cave fangs are abjuration... is it wrong? It feels more like something I'd want to do for Nenio, because pit spells are fun, and she even starts the game with one.

@@climhazzard115 Cave Fangs and all Cure spells are conjuration, I think the Wiki is just wrong here. Undead are very common as minions and mobs and this turns her Mass Cure Wounds into an AoE that can wipe most of them, even late game, and heal your party at the same time. This is a hard counter to several optional bosses such as Playful Darkness.

By the time Ember has enough magic to delete enemies and keep your team healed, your clericy types should also be coming into their game-changing spells. It's great that Ember makes it so you don't have to bring Daeran, but blade barrier is so nice to have...

I have him for buffs and channel mostly. Barrier would be nice if I could see it. Since some patch itd invisible for me. Hear the noise it makes but I don't like damaging my own party.

I do believe Heighten is a good metamagic to take. It gives her a lot more spell slots she can use for her spells.

My three coppers: sorcerous reflex is very good and fun for an offensive caster. Also, a 1-dip of crossblooded of two fire dragon lines is pretty good for boosting hellrays. Ember also has access to hexes, which are very useful. I especially recommend evil eye, cackle, fortune and protective luck. Also, I really, *really* appreciate the equipment breakdown.

I agree on Sorcerous Reflex and the Hex. Disagree on the dip. I think it's a net negative that delays her 9th level casting. Which is already a level late compared to prepared casters. She's already got access to all the Elven Magic feats, if you take those, SR and saves is going to be trivial except on Nat 1s for her or Nat 20s for the AI.

1 fire dragon, then fire elemental.. to turn all her spells to fire magic. Forget the dip, swap her and lvl cross-blood all the way to take advantage of the bloodlines. The patron is a separate tree, she gets those spells based on total level not witch, after evil eye, there not alot of great sexes anyways

@@shawngillogly6873 true, but do you want to place that hex, or blast for 200 damage? Scorching Ray and fire snake will carry a LONG way, by the time you need those 9th lvl spells, youll have them. Not saying your wrong but were talking about offensive caster build here

Almost identical to my own build except I had no idea about that belt. I set crusade to auto so maybe thats why. I remember wishing I didnt save that little twerp until of course he gave me that ash staff. then all was forgiven :D

I think that you want to have bolstered or maximized metamagic on her just to be able to spam scorching and hellfire rays more. You can maximize scorching ray to deal 24 instead of rolling 4d6 on each ray as a 3rd lvl spell and with bolstered you can have 3 rays dealing 24+12 (and another +12 due to dip in crossblood sorc) without items! Crazy dmg with proper gear. Hellfire is even more crazy cause 80 dmg per ray (+30 due to bloodline) as a 7 lvl spellslot without gear is kinda insane and as an 8th lvl spellslot we can hit juicy 80+60 per ray without gear. Also u can find neck piece which bolsteres ur rays giving them additional acid dmg ( around 2d8 + 6 as far as i remember).

Other than her storyline and her default loadout including things like cure spells, is there any mechanical reason behind the Stigmatized Witch as to why Ember is made into a Healer? I set companions on auto-level for my first time around so I could learn how to use subclasses better, yet I never quite understood why she was made into a healer to begin with.

Because half of the spells on her lists are buffs and heals? Outside of her patron spells, her spell list is fairly pacifist. But also, she's simply a very good healer. Better than the cleric you get. Maybe not as good as Daeran. But she's also more survivable, because she has better defensive spells.

Auto leveling can't teach you anything good to be honest... Especially when some hybrid caster (like Ember) is involved.

@@lostsoulltd Well, you get to see the strengths of each subclass without having to do all the theory-crafting prep-work. It may not be the most optimal thing, but it is useful to understand a lot of the weirder stuff.

This might have been mentioned already, but if you wanna spec her as a full ray caster you can go into arcane trickster, forgo feats that give you increased spell DC in favor of ray focus and metamagic feats. Metamagize a scorching ray or a hellfire ray for every caster level. Then you get an extra 5d6 damage per ray that hits, so 15d6 on a full scorching ray or hellfire ray. Then you maximize and empower with rod of the grandmaster and watch Deskari get two-shot by the most precious little elf in existence. Then maybe 1 level dip in crossblooded sorc at 19 or 20? Not sure This makes her basically like octavia in kingmaker, but better because of mythic thingies.

By the way, an eldritch archer (magus subclass) can cast scorching ray (and lvl 16+ hellfire ray) and do a full attack with his bow in the same round. Which is why eldritch archer is my favorite damage dealing class. Not to mention all the other goodies eldritch archers get. Unfortunately, there isn't really a companion that works well for that, so you either have to make your MC an EA or hire a mercenary

This is why I love Respec Mod from Nexus Mod Mananger I can do whatever I want whit all companions, I love the campaign with them cause they are very interactive But I hate all companions premades, with the very good carácter creation we have is an insult and crime not to respec all companions into whatever you want and feels comfortable with the game, of course I respect their originals voices, races, gods and believes, just respect their classes, attributes and skills.

With Ember, I use something very similar except I take a dip into Vivi Alch, and with that I can take 10 levels in Arcane Trickster. So in addition to all her fire damage + bonuses for equipment, all her touch attacks can deal sneak attack damage. You also get some nice bonuses like a Free action greater invisibility and ability to make all your attacks automatically become Sneak Attacks. I believe with all 10 levels, which doesnt affect your spell progression so you are basically just giving up Hexes, nets you around 7-8d6 extra damage per hit (1 Vivi, 5 AT, 1 Accomplished Feat, and optionally 1 from Mythic Sneak Attack). Even Scorching Ray is incredibly powerful in Act 4, even out classing Hellfire (at least until it can fire off more attacks)

I did one for Ember of course, and Nenio. They were the only two were I did something very specific with specific equipment. The other companions I usually did very general builds with.

I strongly disagree with the mythic feat picks. Mythic PBS isn't worth the slot when buffs already put you at enough touch to hit on a 2. Mythic Spell Penetration also feels too early, as it doesn't really pay off as a choice until you hit M4. Archmage armor seems also way too early for a utility pick when Ember should not be in the line of fire. Enduring/Greater Enduring should have priority, and so should the Abundant Casting line. I also think Bolster spell should have priority over school focus Evocation, and maybe consider grabbing Empower Spell at 15. Ashmaker is frankly a wierd pick as many evocation spells have CL caps or scale only at specific levels, hence I prefer taking the +DC staff from Ivory Labyrinth. You should have shown spell list, as this strongly matters for spontaneous casters. And from what I see, you've grabbed all the cure line, which I strongly disagree with, as there are many spells with far better utility, and potions, wands and gold are abundant so no excuses there either. Also, I see your hex picks and I don't see Evil Eye, Fortune, Misfortune or Cackle among them, for shame.

She has only 2 spells worth of Enduring - Death ward and greater heroism (which will turn absolete when tier 9 is unlocked), so kinda disagree with it. Agreed completely in terms of hexes though.

@@lostsoulltd Heroic Invocation doesn't give a +4 morale bonus to saves though, which is the issue, and admitedly the game's toughest encounters happen in the 12-17 level range rather than 18+. And DW is important enough to warrant greater enduring given how your divine caster will want to use its 4th level slots on Freedom of Movement instead, given how scrolls are vulnerable to Greater Dispel unless you bring Nenio along.

This is what I do for Ember is well, this build is the only way to not waste her curse. I use protective luck, cackle, evil eye, fortune, and aura of purity; as well.

This is best Ember. Dipping Arcane Casters will always lose more than you gain. And as an Elf, overcoming SR and saves ought not be an issue. Especially with the gear available for boosting them. That is, unless I make a Main Elf Wizard. But then, I'm probably making a controller rather than a blaster. Because Control Wizards are still the pinnacle of Pathfinder action economy.
