I made the Halo Mod for KF2 back in 2020. I taught myself how to animate, how to get the animations working in KF2, how to get custom audio working in KF2, how to work around the countless, stupid limitations TWI has put in place on modders, and came out with what I thought was a pretty good product. I'm still very pleased you liked the scope system that I built in the mod so much. But what eventually pushed me off the game entirely was that TWI just doesn't care. They regularly say things like "Submit a thread on the forums so we can track this" when asking about whitelisting, or fixing a bug they've known about for a very long time, but nothing ever happens. They feed platitudes to modders and players alike to just kind of keep a lid on things while they develop their next game, presumably. That coupled with the decline of the overall game balance, classes becoming all bland copies of each other instead of the unique and fun playstyles they were before, team comp no longer mattering, and the game just turning into a boring, repetitive shooter, I just got completely turned off from it. And the worst part? All the community maps they added were, originally, great. But whoever is doing mapping over at TWI doesn't have any idea how to do their job, because they have repeatedly, very effectively, butchered the community maps added to the game. I miss what KF2 used to be, and what it made me want to learn and do. It's a game that will always hold a special place in my heart, but it's fallen very, very hard from grace.

Sharpshooter is Gunslinger, but harder, both need to aim at head, sharpshooter lack agility, but does more damage. They both came from KF1 Sharpshooter, who had all pistols and heavy sniper rifles combined. SWAT is tank version of Commando, who has more potential against large zeds Survivalist is a mix of every class. And there was supposed to be Martial Artist... Who has a lot in common with Berserker.

The decline in content quality wouldn't be as painful if we had some communication - I think that's probably why a lot of people are upset, complaining, and ultimately abandoning KF2. If we knew the drop in quality was due to TWI being busy and developing a third game, I'm sure the community would be a lot more forgiving and understanding, maybe even more inclined to financially support the company but nope. Nothing. Just years of dead silence and the hope that one day, something will be announced. Absolutely love this game, I'll always play and support it but I cannot help thinking that the way they've handled maintaining their players and keeping people interested has been an absolute train wreck. Through the development of KF1 and a large portion of KF2's lifespan, TWI were an extremely unique, responsive and understanding team unlike other developers. They knew their game, knew what was good for it and heard the players out. But damn, it's like one day a switch was flipped and something just suddenly... changed :(

Exactly, no communication, we just got in that 2019 Halloween update: "well we got upcoming changes to monetization. Oh and btw, we won't be doing maps anymore and themed updates are gone. Why you might be asking? Well it's a secret xD" They "were" different from other developers, but idk anymore. I been following them well... from the beginning and 2019 was quite sad. My best understanding is that yes... game runs on UE3 which is dated. So they're just doing the bare minimum to keep the players in without saying, well just wait for KF3. (Hopefully KF3 won't be a disaster)

Finally someone who tells it how it is. I've met many players who tell me the game is fine in its current state and they've been playing since EA, only to wonder if they are from a different dimension. But in all seriousness, I hope this year will be a turning point for the game and the extra time TWI/Saber are taking is actually going to make a difference. We can only hope my friends...

This game got me through some dark times in 2018. I was a teenager and didn't have a lot of hope in the world. I'd come home from a depressing day at school, fire up KF2, and just blow up some zeds. I remember pretending the zeds were my problems and just killing them as quick as i could out of anger. I don't know where i'd be today if i didn't have that avenue of releasing stress. Life's good now, so I gotta hand it up to Tripwire. The game may be in a rough state, but it will always hold a special place in my heart for everything it helped get me through. GG KF2 and I hope one day we'll get KF3.

This game is STILL loads of fun. Not many good Team PvE games outthere. The formula of the game is simple but effective. I never pay anything to unlock crates or anything but just recycle everything for craftable items. Simply because i'm oldschool and think microtransactions are stupid. The level design of this game is soo incredibly gorgeous and creative. And you can basically instantly play it for a while without having to mind anything. Sure at first you are struggling a bit when your perk classes are all low level but once you are above level 10 and have some perks unlocked, things are a lot more fun. It's great when more experienced players help you out with some Dosh too. So this game reminds me a lot of my early days of online multiplayer gaming. When things were a lot more chill and a lot less toxic and poisoned.

I became a hardcore killing floor 2 fan straight from Early Access being that I also played a lot of KF1 when it was old even back then and for the most part I loved KF2, found it quite invigorating and played it religiously, even loving the new cosmetics, weapons and maps. I even didn't mind the the new enemies soo much, I think the Abomination was gross and awesome as well as new additions like the money vault and xp challenges but it slowly began to gradually slide downhill; you have enemies like Rioters that wear this ridiculous metal armor that makes them look like from a fantasy game, they destroyed the weapon balance by nerfing and making them reliant on boring, exuberantly taxed upgrades the EDAR's which are no fun to fight and ruin the combat flow and so on but then I finally hit my tolerance threshold of the amount of crap I was willing to put up with. They went back on their promise of cosmetic-only purchases, now instead they charge $10 for 1 gun and 4 weapon skins with it and these pitiful HRG reskins of already implemented weapons in place of the free weapons, at that point I finally walked away and it pains me soo much of how much of a bastardization not just the game has turned in to.

I think a big problem of KF2 was that it didn't really evolve the gameplay of KF. There's little to no incentive to play the game; beating bosses didn't offer anything other than extra xp and objective mode was just stand here, or go here and press/hold E. Beyond shooting zeds, there's nothing else to do. Payday and left 4 dead offer real objectives to complete, and show how laughably bad KF2's are. For a game where the devs boasted about their gore mechanics, it still only features decapitations. No ability to shoot off limbs/weapons. Even left 4 dead 2 in 2009 had this. I also find a lot of the classes to be same-y. Like, Commando, gunslinger, sharpshooter, medic, swat, support (and technically survivalist) use weapons that fire bullets. That's 7/10 classes. The creation of new classes didn't really add anything because some of these are so similar they might as well have been one class. Not adding weapon modding because they didn't want to balance it and giving us just a weapon upgrade button was a terrible decision. The creation of HRG weapons shows just how lazy the devs got, that they couldn't be bothered to make a new design and just reskinned existing weapons. Dosh vault money that can't be spent on anything, so what's the point of getting it? Why not give us the ability to buy skins with dosh? Because money. While I agree that the new weapons coming out for the earlier updates where fun to try out, I don't think the game ever really took a step towards growing up with its players

I disagree with the idea that Ashwood Asylum was the beginning of the downfall of KF2. Ashwood is an awesome map that I would dare classify as classic. The decline started with the lacking Christmas themed updates. Sanitarium seemed like it was supposed to originally release with Ashwood as it clearly has the appearance of a Halloween styled map. Spillway is another great map that will go down as a classic if not already. The spring update was my favorite as i loved the cyberpunk theme and cosmetics. Imo, the last decent map added was Elysium. Albeit It started off rocky with no ammo and also no Xmas theme but after it was updated it was at least playable. It received a bad rep at first and it was surely not well received as an Xmas event map but on It's own it is a pretty decent map. I like how it makes a team have to play more strategical when the map switches every other round and how each map within it can be played in different styles whether running and gunning or holding out. The map may seem lacking in substance but it does make you think about how to approach different locations besides the main area. Since then the map has become a favorite of mine. KF2 has declined and lost players for a number of reasons including perk rebalances, copy & pasted weapons, unbalanced Vs mode, random bundled loot crates, weapon nerfs, smaller and cluttered map releases, and the fact that there are so many other amazing single and multiplayer titles that KF2 simply cannot compare against. I'm just stating topics of reasons why KF2 players have left and I'm not asserting a stance on one side vs the other but I will say certain changes i believe were justified such as the Zerk Nerf but other people didn't like it. The game had it's time though. It had a decent run but it failed to expand further upon itself in larger ways and instead updates became monotonous and all the same as mentioned in the video. The game became hyper focused around store sales with cosmetics, weapons, characters, bundles, and crates. It had to make money somehow so i can't blame them for trying to keep it afloat but it's been on a downward trend for a couple years now. Although not many players reminisce over Airship, the Summer Sideshow Event gave KF2 it's highest player count and it's because the game was free on PlayStation at the time. Santa's Workshop however was peak KF2. We will never see a map like that again. The detail and effort put into every inch of that map was something wholeheartedly special for the community. I'm happy to have experienced KF2 when it was in it's prime.

Im surprised they still haven't made the game f2p. This would be the best option they can do and make it available on gamepass. This would bring in so many new players and the game literally lives off skins. THere's so much content and skins you can purchase and knowing people they will buy all those rgb skins. I do believe the content has been stale on KF2 because they did hint long time ago about a new KF game and might have crossplay or something. I do hope they make the new KF free to play and allow custom maps on console. I believe the secret ingredient for having a game that lasts with a community is having the workshop, allowing the workshop to work with console players, and having active developers implementing official content on top of the the community content. L4D and Garrys mod and Terraria and Sometimes Call of duty on PC keeps big active players because of this. I grew up on KF by getting a pirated copy and playing off Hamachi with people hosting the game. And then officially getting the game from my parents and kf2 I ended up going to console. I know this game can be big. I have high high hopes for KF3

updates and events to date means the game continues to bring in good profits. It is still played daily and regularly by fans who have upgraded each class to prestige 5 (and have nothing left to do), among others there are many gamers who are new to the game. Not to be forgotten are the forums on Steam, among others, where the topic of KF3 is heavily discussed. I loved KF1 so much that even back then I knew they had a lot planned for it, with the perks and weapons we all grew to love in the first KF plus some new stuff as well. And it was good. This video hits the nail right on the head, timeline wise, about the rise and fall of KF2. I have to say 2018 was KF2 at it's best (Monster Ball, imo, still the best Halloween themed KF map). Then... It seems like Tripwire lost their way. Every update after the Christmas event felt rather... soulless. As if lacking the spirit that was found in previous updates and just more cash grabs which was what ruined it for me. It became clear Tripwire were going through the motions after that and it wasn't the same.

A great, wonderful game. I remember getting out of school to play this game everyday. It was such a fun time, me and my close friend spent hundreds of hours just grinding and shooting up zeds. It was an amazing time, the game was getting content rapidly and kept the community alive for a while which is honestly crazy. Most games die in a span of a year or two, this game had a strong community for I wanna say four years since I played on Xbox One. Now? It’s in a sad place, the game is currently running on fumes. The community has long abandoned the game and moved onto other things, regardless, I still play it every few months. Nothing really has the same satisfying gun play and co-op experience. Killing Floor 2, thank you for hundreds of hours wasted and a ton of fun had. I played the snot out of KF1 back in the day on a variety of community maps with objective mode, custom zeds/perks you name it. I still do from time to time, the SCRN mod pack (or whatever the hell its called) has brought some fun doom stuff into KF1 for me to enjoy. I love KF2, but I've grown frustrated with it. KF2 has some custom maps, but it somehow feels like less. Last time I touched it I kept getting version mismatch errors I couldn't resolve so I threw in the towel. I kept running into issues with the abom boss flying out of stock maps, the vault/inventory servers disconnecting, or weekly mechanics just feeling under baked. Even if I didn't think about the 10$ DLC, or how little I liked the EDARs (I didnt find a way to mod em out either) I couldn't shake the thought that TWI was throwing paint on a janky game that couldn't reliably be extended. The little they had added after 2019 seemed to be either in bad taste, or just under polished. Objective mode feels under developed and repetitive, and vs mode was always dead. Before trader skipping, endless mode was depressing. The changes made to community maps before being integrated as stock maps are atrocious too. It shows that the game was handed to another developer to keep the gravy train rolling but who knows if we're getting a KF3 out of it since it's in live service mode. Some of the animations on the new weapons from the new studio are a little less polished than the rest too. The weapons feel great, so it sucks to see such a compromise with new or even DLC weapons but I fear it's the mark of a trend to come.

2017 and 2018 were sooo good. But then they gave it to another studio and basically put it on auto pilot mode. I pray to god they did that to start making KF3. If I have any wants for KF3, please make it easier to host modded servers. I've hosted modded servers in many games now with little to no issue, but it's fucking HORRIBLE to do in KF2. In some cases if the mods are removed from the steam workshop your server will just stop working, other servers from other games don't work this way and they don't generally require you to even have the mods because they should be hosted server side.

I played 700 hours of KF1 until this one was announced. I remeber when i earned a beta key back in 2015... i was sooo hyped and i loved the game in spite of having only 4 perks and a few maps, i really enjoyed the journey until this day. I almost never play KF2 actually but it gave me another 700 hours of enjoyment and that was worth every coin I invested in KF2.

Hi! I just tried KF2 for a few days before the Tidal Terror update. Then some of my friends got hooked into this game, too! We may have missed its prime time, but the core gameplay is the thing that makes us thrilled. I purchased the Ultimate Edition of the game, hoping there won’t be any paid weapons anymore.

I still think KF1 is a better game. I don’t dislike KF2, not at all. It’s a great game. But KF1 just beats it in terms of difficulty and atmosphere. And it’s not rose tinted glasses, I’ve played KF1 in recent times and still feel this way. I’m not that dumb to say I don’t enjoy KF2 of course I do, but I just really hope the eventual sequel will bring back that dark tone.

KF2 was there for me to play for such a long time, and I used to enjoy it so much. I'd say late 2018 was the last time the game felt true. After that, we kept getting more and more junk added to the game, and Saber took over and made things worse. I uninstalled at the first sight of paid weapons. I just couldn't believe how much the game was monetized. It really lacked soul. The game was littered with atmosphere-ruining cosmetics and the game just lost all original art direction. It did not help when event zeds showed up on every map for nearly 2 months, and that ridiculous neon skins were becoming so mainstream in the game. The game used to put an emphasis on team work and would punish bad decisions, such as raging a Scrake was much more deadly earlier in the game's life cycle. Sharpshooter and Demo were both much more respected for their roles, now pretty much any perk can do anything almost, which is the worst part. I want Coop in my Coop shooter. I don't wanna run around like idiots in a mindless shooter. Mindless shooters are the worst type of game ever. KF2 focuses less on skill and more on spam and just blasting everything. There really is not much tactical elements left to the game. Decisions like "Should I take a Railgun because I'm confident in my team to defend me, or should I take an M14 and Crossbow to still put some good damage out but defend myself" just don't matter anymore. Those types of decisions based on team composition were what made the game fun. There was a reason why Commandos should rarely take on large zeds, and why Gunslingers shouldn't get automatic weapons. Now stuff like this exists and completely ignores the original intent of the game. I wouldn't be so upset about it but it's a live service game so I am forced to play with these changes unless I want to have a modified server which I have no patience for. The game doesn't even let me host a game on my own just to play with friends. Even while the horrible predatory microtransactions for crap cosmetics (mostly) was in the game, I still sunk over 2000 hrs in it because the core gameplay was just so much fun. The only thing that comes close is Left 4 Dead 2, which is still solid because they didn't add a bunch of crap that ruined the original game underneath. The game from 2015-2018 was a solid 8.5/10 for me, it just needed a better emphasis on teamplay and less focus on a horrible cosmetic system that ruined the original art style. As stated, they kept doing the opposite of this and the game lost touch with the incredible experience it once provided. Many people point to the long-overdue zerk nerf as a big problem. That was actually something good they did. Perks should not be able to solo a 6P HOE lobby just through passive regen and damage resistance alone. Especially when the Eviscerator was a 1-2 shot kill on Scrakes. That was absurd. It used to be a 1 shot kill on 5P HOE, 6P HOE needed 2 since he barely had any left but teammates could just clean up after that. What was really stupid was the Sharpshooter Stun Chance nerf. The M14 and Crossbow (heck, every sharpshooter weapon) were STUN MACHINES. And for GOOD REASON. The game can be chaotic so having a perk that can mitigate some chaos and save his team from a big zed is great! But then they removed it. Apparently having good weapons that fulfill their intended purpose is not good. The eviscerator is an exception to this rule because it allowed the Berserker to solo 6P HOE lobbies with low effort. Sharp did not have that level of survivability and needed protection or tools to fight against the zeds. He had stun, M14, Lever, and Crossbow with retrievable bolts. Railgun was an option to decimate large zeds or nearly kill them. Then, after the stun nerf, Railgun became Sharpshooter meta which sucked the fun out of all the other guns that used to work very well. After Eviscerator nerf, you could still kill Scrakes with 3-5 Headshots on 6P HOE. So it wasn't huge. But the sharpshooter stun nerf sucked. Some nerfs were long overdue to make the purpose of other perks more apparent. However, they kept changing their mind on balance decisions so much that nothing was consistent. Eventually we got to where we are now which has all perks capable of doing everything, and now Sharpshooter is seen as underpowered by players because he requires more skill to do his job than other perks. Rant over, but there could be much more.

I'd say 2016 was the peak because 2017 is when it all started to go to shit. Crossperking (which killed the already bad survivalist), new ''bosses'' that should have stayed weekly outbreak exclusives, stupid forced event themed zeds that you have to deal with every damn season, downgraded versions of community maps being official, stupid descent maps, etc... Every update from then on was a double edged sword. But yeah 2019 is when all hope was lost.

I remember buying KF2 the day it went on early access. I've played off and on ever since, have a few prestige 5 perks, and still enjoy most of what the game has to offer. while the quality of the updates has been going down, Hamlet has one of the easiest choke points to hold i've ever seen on that scaffolding bridge, I do generally understand why they are structured the way they are. Continuing to have free updates for a game that's going on 8 years old is already incredible, and I understand why people originally got upset at the notion of buying weapons individually, but I had no individual problem with it. Every game needs money for development, and the fact that the weapons are shared DLC (one person in a lobby has it, you all have it), instead of individual like they were in Killing Floor 1, makes it much more palatable. Some of the perk balance changes have made me scratch my head, for sure. Berserker being utterly destroyed after being the most braindead hard-carry perk in existence was a bit harsh. Demo getting to increase their RPG supply by almost 40% really shook things up. Survivalist being the worst perk in the game finally losing that crown to swat was impressive.

They already have the shit stuff hard wired into the game, lootboxes, overpriced DLC, lazy reskin weapons, no new zeds, no new official good maps, objective mode makes no sense and is pretty much abandoned. The overall game with no new content is really dry, the new content we do get feels dated on day 1. So yeah they need to either make an entire new game to fix the problems, or really step back and take a look at it.
