Dude what are you talking about, most of india was under revenue based collection system which was inforced with iron will, specially during medival period fixed revenue system was replaced mostly by percentage of product which gave little to no lease to zamindar collecters, lets take for example zabt system being implemented by sher shah. Land was measured each year, it was divided in good medium and bad, then revenue was fixed, to explicitly make sure that zamindar don't take what ever they want, revenue share was written on patta instrument and given to producer to eliminate corruption. This same system was adopted by akbar and renamed dahasala system, with even more regulations, measurement were carried out even when croups were sown or standing, khet batai and rai tax were issued ,pattas were given leaving little room for corruption. In fact even during fixed revenue system and collection of rai tax zamindar couldn't just openly take what ever he wanted, if peasants were to complain to local faujdar, he can be punished brutally , his land can be confiscated. Even in other areas like deccan , Vijaynagar more or less same regulations were imploided, of cource corruption happened all the time, but almost always it was like take it on own risk thing just like today ,and you don't even have to be a historian to figure that out, let's just take you so called extreme end of fudal system and apply it in real life, lets say zamindar is allowed to take what ever he want from peasants , then can he even further cultivate anything due to hunger , let's say half of peasants die due to starvation and other half simply don't have strength to work, then what produce tax state gets, that is zero. Hense even king with street dog iq will imply checks and balence to protect peasants , it's common sense.
