Hello, why does the stellate cells, when stimulated, begin to have a different function, than they normally do?

Cytokines (chemical messengers between cells) released in the inflammatory process bind to receptors on stellate cells. This causes numerous reactions within the stellate cell and results in particular genes being expressed more than usual - hence causing the change in function.
