Patient Story: Mother and Baby Survive Aortic Dissection

Julie Simeone, her husband, and the doctors and medical staff that cared for her retell Julie's extraordinary patient story.
During a shower party for her soon-to-be-born baby, Julie Simeone felt a pop in her chest followed by pain. She went to a local hospital in New Jersey where doctors performed a CT scan and discovered that Julie had a large type one aortic dissection (a part of her aorta was tearing). The condition was dangerous and needed to be repaired quickly. Julie was flown to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in neighboring New York City by helicopter. At NYP, she underwent surgery to deliver her baby and repair her heart. We're happy to report that the story has a happy ending.
