Hey, thanks for the shout out! I love the 67 - 68 Chevy Trucks, I have restored three of them so far. When I get ready to do another one it will be 503 green. Rocky Dorrier

A tip to add to this great video-on the final paint coat like on the green before you spray go ahead and lightly spray a little water on the surface in a few spots and paint the green on top that gives added patina look-

They were only new once. I'm doing 4 K20s two have great patina, one Seafoam the other was a Connecticut DPW orange that pushed snow for 50 years. In all the restoration work getting the faded, chalk-like patina right is most challenging. I sometimes get lucky and find some little piece that matches but the welding and plastic work must be doctored or left raw. Your video is done well.

Thank you Frank! I love hearing you have 4 going. Each one we save will bring years of memories for someone else. Matching patina is an art I haven’t mastered, but it is fun to try! Thanks for sharing and for watching!

@@C10TruckNerd I've also seen dents in a bumper brazed in spectacular look. Patena/some chrome/gold color if the brass melted into the debt divets. Torch and brass rod brazing us actually a real old metal working method on cars so it actually "looks" authentic. So is lead,but the fumes are toxic. Babit is a safe substitute for lead Experimenting with these? Will take you in awesome new directions

Leaning towards going this route with my '68. Had to replace the cab corners and rockers though... I guess I could just do the filler work on those and attempt to blend in some paint.
@C10TruckNerd2 жыл бұрын
I won’t lie. It was pretty satisfying to experiment. I was really impressed with the U-POL spray paint O’Reilly’s mixed up. Little pricey but it went a long way. I was able to do the bedside, side of cab and 2 complete coats on the dash.

Original ocean green on my56 was only faded, very little rust,had I known then what I know now, I never would have had it painted, but it was 1997, patina term had not been invented yet, one of my big regrets.

I understand that! I stripped my 71 in medium green to paint it Emerald green. Then it was too nice to drive.

Mix a jug of saltwater and vinegar, soak some rags and put them on the rusty bits. It will be really rusty again the next day and not look like sanded down rust.

Really like this look! Thinking of trying it myself but was wondering does it not need a coat of primer before you painted it? For the paint to stick to?
@C10TruckNerd2 жыл бұрын
For longevity primer would be helpful. If you like how rust looks now you might skip it. But you will have to touch it up more frequently unless you put a clear over it. There are some neat companies that make wipe on clear coats. I plan to try one out in the future.

Sorry but patina is another word for lazy Ness . I have rattle canned my 67 two times ...once gloss black and the other time krylon cherry red and got compliments both times and I liked it because it was all one color . I loaned my 67 to my brother to cut fire wood and I didn't get it back because he sold it but didn't give me any money for it ....one reason I don't talk to my brother. I would rather have my truck back than the money but that ain't gonna happen . Great video if you want to patina something but that ain't me....rattle can is the only way to go if you can't afford the body shop!!!
@C10TruckNerd2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that happened! I never was a fan until lately. I let nice paint limit when and where I used to drive because I was worried something might happen to it.
