I've had photography as a hobby since I was 14 and at the beginning of the year I purchased myself a used a7ii as my first camera when I moved to Europe to study . I loved it so much and I don't think I've ever fallen in love or be more passionate to anything than photography, but as someone who is trying to built connections and spread my presence and also have communication issues, I feel so anxious trying to talk to people and add in the fear of rejection, its so hard to feel that I've progressed anywhere. I haven't charged anyone for my work because I don't think I've deserved it yet but even just asking for credit on my photos is so scary to me.

Fear is not always a bad thing - It often means we are going outside of our comfort zone --through fear I can see you care deeply about this way of expressing yourself, and you hold it dear. This is why you must use this fear as your strength, not as a weakness. Go slowly if you must, but please, go for it if that's what you truly want. You only live once.

I totally understand how you feel and I wish you luck in your journey. I've had trouble asking for credit in the past too. One thing I know though is that you absolutely deserve credit, no matter what.

I love how you've put it as a tier list. I personally think stock photos are more like a C tier if you've been taking photos for like 2-3 years because, although you don't make a ton of money, it gives you a pretty good experience with being super detail oriented and very precise with things like lighting or posing.

Hi Pat, Thank you for your knowledge and inspiration. I am an older person who has been doing photography since 1984 "The film and dark room days" always as a hobby. I do not class myself as a professional as it's just stuff I do. I also want to share with you what one of my mentors Bob Proctor told me "the best way to learn something is to teach it" I have followed that principle through my life and it has supported me. I need to change my "work" so I am also doing my REPL so I can commercially fly drones. I love that you included teaching in this segment and I have had a goal to do local and Asian holiday / learning to take pictures and fly drones for hobbyist. Not to make them professional but to give them confidence in using their equipment, teach the basics and have field trips and critique each other's work in a fun and friendly environment.

The most difficult aspect of making money is having the time to get started. I’ve been doing events and sport, with a few commercial gigs thrown in, for a number of years. It’s not enough to give up my day job, but it is enough that I am short on free time to build. This is a great video for looking at choices - thank you. It’s also good, coupled with your video on how to make the jump from my current situation.

I think it would be really interesting for you to make a video about your commercial photography experience. It's something that most content creators I follow aren't a part of and definitely a great way to make photography work as a source of income.

I agree too, digital products is the one of the best. But stock photos is my number 1 income, and it's 100% passive. I just travel and upload my files like 2-3 days per month, and my revenues increase monthly.

Terrific video! I'm personally nowhere near good enough at photography yet to even think of it as a potential "side hustle", but it's nice to have a framework to think about as I continue to work on leveling up.

You are good enough if you change your way of thinking. If you're taking photos on a decent camera (i.e. not a phone), you're probably already getting better results than most people you know. Offer your services to them whenever you see an opportunity. Even if you charge very little and offer their money back if they aren't happy with the results, you've made a start, while gaining experience working for clients. You will slowly build up your skill and your work will help attract new work and you can start to charge more money.

Currently at the stage of learning photography to an extent that it becomes a marketable skill. Which means a lot of cheap to free photoshoots. Practicing at concerts and events I find myself. All this recently led to being hired by a school to cover their events. It's progress I guess. I can’t wait to be as good as you Pat😂. KZbin is definitely next on the list now.

Yours is a great story! You've demonstrated that persistence, practice, and patience translates into progress - and the side bonus of your efforts: profit. I've personally experienced in my photography journey that my lack of patience in the past created frustration, anxiety, and even the notion of quitting the pursuit of photography as a profession. You've worked on your craft with sincere intention to grow within it, and the art is giving back to you. Congratulations! And i wish you continued progress.

Thanks Pat for the super valuable insights. Photography is challenging here in Singapore due to its geographic size. But I continued to work on it and found some super locations for long exposure cityscape photography. I’m thinking of documenting my journey with the photos I’ve taken and teach others how they too can take similar photos. Would that count as a digital product?

im studying on the course of art-photography here in ukraine and due to war i would say everything is very quiet in the field of money making, no one wants to do anything, and only big companies already have their own photography team, so yeah, thats a quite hard time for art and for photography here and for me especialy haha
