If you compare the grip levels Indycar is like driving on ice around corners. I bet the only place where you could come close to comparing grip levels would be at IMS where they go 240 mph into the corners

Interesting that Pato said the grip was the biggest thing he noticed. Most drivers who get their first drive in an F1 car say the ability to brake so much later than they expect is the biggest thing they noticed - but they also mention the downforce (grip).

I mean, He is competing against some of the best drivers from the most diverse set of disciplines on the planet. He's fighting legends of Indycar like Will Power and Scott Dixon, F1 Stalwart Grosjean, and a man who makes a strong claim to the greatest NASCAR driver of all time in Jimmie Johnson. Throw on top the young guns in Palou and Herta, both of whom have the skills to step into f1 right now and be on the pace, and Indycar may be the best proving ground for young drivers on the planet right now.
@Real283 жыл бұрын
@@TheKirbyT that's what I was getting at. He's racing against some of the best in the world, not guys in a feeder series. On top of that, IndyCar is the top of it's kind so there are pressures that come with that, that won't exist in a feeder series. If he and/or Herta could make the move successfully, that would be a first.

Zak Brown clearly has a type that he hires. Pato seems to exude that in spades. Even if McLaren doesn't win the constructors or drivers titles, I honestly have the most fun watching and rooting for this team. The work environment and camaraderie of the teams (if behind the scenes is the same as what you see on these films) is a great credit to the leaders involved in this team. Even if they have a bad weekend, they all seem to have a positive outlook on the situation and never lose their drive to succeed. I wish I had leaders like that where I work.

I couldn't agree more. If I were to pick a team it would be this one. Yeah, there is a certain type of head down seriousness that has to occur the closer you get to seeing yourself winning championships and constructors, but the energy of McLaren at present is such a positive one and one where they want to see growth in an organic way. They push, they don't harp on the negative, and they take the time to fully celebrate their good days. I've worked at a few jobs like this and it absolutely makes a difference how everyone as a team works together and is able to accomplish greatness. You respect and nurture the team, they respect you and tend to push for those results. Pato has a good vibe to him that who knows, we may someday see driving for McLaren.

@@driver46 - I understand. There is not on-track competitive racing balance [to date], but there is no question F1 is the absolute apex of race team development, technological advancement, research and development, international audience, beauty, and global excess defined. In short, all the Heaven you can afford, find, or will yourself in.

But everyone knows that F1 is superior to indy in cornering, that car has many advantages over indycar on a road circuit. There are 300 more horsepower, bigger tires, much higher downforce, power steering, etc. There are too many advantages in favor of F1. However, the speed will not impress an indy driver because in that section indy is superior to F1, the brake apparently did not impress him either.

Thanks to Zac and McLaren and others for giving us incredible insight into the world of both F1 and IndyCar. Pato's reaction to driving the car is awesome to hear. More grip and power steering must make the car feel like it is on rails. I wonder how much aero grip will be lost in 2022 and how much more racey F1 will be.
