It's funny that people say Taylor is just a pop girly for preteens, when in truth she is for depressed people, lol.

This song was a bonus track on evermore along side "it's time to go" to showcase the two possibilities in life: staying in the hurt or letting it go
@musicfangirl7403 Жыл бұрын
This is why it bothers me when people don’t listen to whole albums as intended. You get to the end of Evermore and get to choose with the bonus tracks…stay paralyzed in your grief and heartbreak or move on. It makes sense as a whole work of art.

this song makes me tear up when i pay too much attention to the lyrics, she didn't have to make the image so visceral ahh i can picture it a little too well and it hurts. it's really really one of her best written songs in my mind. i guess i'm a lover of depressing music tbh. even better if the depressing music is juxtaposed with an upbeat sound

is her best song, n' saddest

One of her best songs ever. I never understand people who only want happy art. It’s supposed to make you feel and push your emotional boundaries. Then you can see your life is happy in comparison! ❤
@PopAt50 Жыл бұрын
i dont have any emotional boundaries. i feel everything with the force of 1000 exploding suns. happy? 1000 suns. depressed? 1000 neutron stars. angry? Supernovas. everything is desperately intense and i'd rather have the happy for all that.

I do think society has a fixation on misery, which is different from just 'feelings of sadness'. I think this stems from the fact that advocacy and representation for mental health has exploded in the last few decades, and now we're stuck in a place where we're willing (or perhaps eager) to share our trauma but we're not willing to look for ways to meaningfully grow from/with it.

She talks about this girl being 23, I think this song is very much a young adult's reaction to a break up with someone they loved. The first time I heard it I thought it was very accurate to that emotion. And the line "Break ups happen everyday, you don't have to lose it" is so great, maybe it's harsh but it could also be something someone needs to hear. Upbeat, happy Taylor Swift songs: Long Live, State of Grace, Love Story, Welcome to New York. I Bet You Think About Me is a really fun one, and Anti-Hero, while not necessarily happy, is a masterpiece. I'd love to see a whole Midnights reaction :)

I think this girl is taylor herself. "Friends breakup friend gets married." " Glass shattered on the white cloth" She stop being friend with Dianna Agron in the age of 23. and she met karlie kloss in 23 . Both of them are jewish and they are not friends with tay anymore.

Well I’m not a large sample size but I can confirm. I am 23 and just split with my partner of 5 years, not my call. I know I’ll be fine eventually, but it sure as hell feels that way right now lol

I love LOVE this song, i know it's heartbreaking, but the storytelling, the imagery, everything, is just so beautiful, i think it's probably in my top 5 of Taylor's fav songs, along with Invisible String that i very much recommend, it's not super upbeat but i think it'll make you feel better after this song, it's a love song, and i don't really know if you can use cozy as a word to describe a song (not english speaker) but that song definitely is

the quick tempo of this song is quite contradictory to the message of the song wherein she's implying she's stuck in time and can't seem to move on. its deliberately running through quickly in the "present" while she also describes the story in a fast pace. towards the end it slows down to flashback to the instant they broke up to show how and when time actually stopped for her from that point onwards. also, 22 in my mouth :)

22 in my mouth This one always makes me think of the Great Expectations character Havisham being left at the alter and she spends the rest of her life in her she even left the wedding feast out to rot and get covered in dust wedding dress It also makes me think of moments when you world breaks and it feels like you can’t move or even think the shock of everything is to much

This song reminds me of Let Down by Radiohead. If you don't pay attention to the lyrics, then it's just a pretty song. When you listen to the lyrics, then you feel like you're melting into a puddle. This song hit me hard the first time i heard it.

While Taylor does have a lot of happy pop in basically all of her albums except Folklore and Evermore, she's always been a sensitive person that writes about the harder things in life too. In her debut album, where she wrote most of the songs when she was between the ages of 12 and 16, she has songs about getting bullied (she was heavily bullied during middle-school), about heartache and event about of her friends going through an eating disorder. So Taylor's music is never going to only be like Shake It Off or Lover. PS: 22 in my mouth.
