Deet's today was just a little on the argumentative side! He was stiff, unwilling to bend and just kind of telling Mike he was not in the mood to work today. He never really does anything bad, but he was not a really willing boy today. He is a sweet horse, very mouthy, always into something if he can reach it.
He has such a great rear end on him. He really pushes off with it in his ground exercises. He did groundwork really well until the flex and today he was not too interested in flexing. He was not interested in bending either.
As Mike continued to work with him and continued to move his feet asking for the bend, he became softer. Mike wants the horse to hold the bit in his mouth and not push with his head on the bit. Today Mike made a believer out of Deet's that he has to move without trying to take the bit away from Mike. At the end they made several rounds where Deets kept his head still and it looked great! So, progress came today, as it usually does with careful hands and feet and proper timing of the release. This is a typical training session with a young horse. Going to be a nice horse with very nice gaits.
