pope is the top most bishop of roman catholic community and Patriach is the the top most Bishop of the Orthodox community (there are several Orthodox community and each one has their own Patriach)

The Pope is the head of all patriarchs just like st. Peter ,the head of apostles. The Pope leads the Catholic Church which is communion of 24 sui juris( autonomous) churhes . Among those churches, one is Roman another is Antiochian (headed by Patriarch Ignatios Ioseph III Ionan). The syrian orthodox church is schismatic group that splitted from Catholic Communion at council of Calcedon under leadership of Jacob baraddeus.
