Bartok probably couldn’t imagine his music played so beautifully and with such imagination. Patricia is a very acquire taste…. It’s one I’ve acquired a while ago. Love her. ❤️

Like it or not, she brings a strong point of view to everything she plays. That's out of fashion in the modern era.

I agree; she really gets down to business. Reminds me of Janine Jansen, but perhaps even more serious.

Kopatchinskaja is one of the most audacious violinists ever. Yes, she is an eccentric! Everything she does is with total commitment and intensity. If you expect something safe and conservative she will not be your "cup of tea." If you are open to a refreshing new vision you will not be disappointed. Brava! And the Finnish Radio Orchestra under S. Oramo's baton is more than equal to the task!

One of the most authentic interpretations of Bartok's 2nd violin concerto. Personally, Kopatchinskaja's "bare feet" playing reminds me of Bartok as "an ardent student of folkways, seeking the roots of meters, rhythms, and modalities in the spontaneous songs and dances of the people." (quoting Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians). Wonderful!

For some reason her bare feet put me in mind of a story about Bartok I read decades ago--probably in Halsey Stevens's book. One of Bartok's rare students of composition was an American named Bull Storm, who recounted that he once arrived for his lesson and found Bartok writing music while completely naked. Bartok wasn't as buttoned up as he usually seemed to people he did not know well.

That is the best rendition of my favorite Bartok composition.

I love Richard Hendrix’ remarks about Patricia Kopatchinskaja. I had to think about her performance. He woke me up and I thought what I feel and examined what I feel about her. I love her playing, I like how she comports herself, I admire her violin playing, I felt charmed by her clowning during a Ligeti Violin performance, her playing in this recording feels earthy and grounded. Her music makes sense to me. She makes the music talk to me. I want to be present. I do adore gypsies.

Enthralling. Left me breathless at times, where will she take this next? And having heard this concerto by so many, before her, it certainly made it new again. I prefer the Feldmann but I’ll for sure remember this version.

A brilliant perfofmance by PatKop. Almost as though she's channeling Jelly D'Aranyi, one of Bartok's muses.

Hopefully PatKop won't consult the Ouija board to evoke the spirit of Robert Schumann. But I love her so much that it will not matter. Her performances have brought great joy to my heart.

Il est clair que Patricia Kopatchinskya a davantage d'aisance dans l'interprétation de Bartok ou Stravinsky que dans celles des œuvres des derniers romantiques .

You know what? Bartok sounds so magnificently & naturally structured as a Beethoven piece might sound. Her idiomatic playing is like that time I had to desperately call someone in Italy and I was able to speak enough Italian to communicate with them despite no awareness of the language.

@emilelaurent3 жыл бұрын
I can assure you that this is the video as recorded and broadcast by Finnish radio without any synchronisation. As for "sciatta" we can remind you that her recording of the same concerto with Eötvös won the ECHO, as well as Gramophones recording of the year and a Grammy nomination (kzbin.info/www/bejne/noTWoJ-LrrGbhtk). And many of her recordings have reference qualities, e.g. this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5zYdq2tadiqldk or this kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn27nIutjp2glck

@BestAmateurViolinist4 жыл бұрын
Single handedly, she is the strangest violinist I have ever heard in my life. Does she even know what a tempo is? She's all over the place. But this is how she is typically. And she looks unkept as well. It's out of tune right off the bat and then she gets out of tempo. How is the orchestra supposed to follow her when she can't keep up a straight tempo ? And the third note of the solo does not even have an accent on it. She puts a comma before she plays it. It's not phrased that way. This girl comes up with the weirdest phrasings I have ever heard and they are quite unnatural. I do not like her playing at all. I think she purposely goes out there on a limb trying to be as weird as possible. another thing that I really dislike is that this is not a performance, it's a reading. She doesn't have it memorized. I have a big problem with that. Her second movement is washed out in the tone. There's nothing tender about it, it's more timid than tender. Her searching qualities are quite bothersome to me. By this time she should have made up her mind instead of searching. It lacks a solid continuity. And she goes for a flash in the pan instead of real substance. If she's not doing that, then she needs to get help. This is the most disjointed Bartok I've ever heard in my life.
@carlossantana30494 жыл бұрын
well she is soloing with berlin philharmonic and with top conductors!!! she is amazing. just unique. "out of tune" and tempo with her is making it her own.
4 жыл бұрын
Not only does she play memorized notes, but she also sees what is between the notes. Music is the silence between the notes. Artists playing only by heart tend to sound always the same. In contrast, Patricia's playing is lively, inspiring, always new.
@donaldallen17714 жыл бұрын
The first two notes have a slur over them and a cresc. The third note is separate and marked 'f'. You could argue that she over does the separation and that Bartok did not intend an accent on the third note, but rather that the cresc ends on the third note, forte. Or you could argue that she does exactly what Bartok wrote. But you say "it's not phrased that way". That is really quite an exaggeration. And this is folk music, gypsy music. She really captures the spirit of it, in my opinion. You are obviously entitled not to like this performance or her playing in general. But I think you've grossly over-stated your case. And your remark that she "looks unkept", which I assume should have been "unkempt", was totally unnecessary and tasteless.

if she becomes similar to hadelich and other soloists, how is she setting herself apart? music is meant to be personal and it's how she interprets it that makes her style so special and memorable. her mendelssohn is an absolute trip!! i totally recommend
@diegeigergarnele79754 жыл бұрын
Creativity is not doing weird things to make a scene. This is a decent ish bartok for intonation and notes but interpretatively is extremely unnatural and completely opposite to the sweet and melanchonic style of Bartok music. But I guess it's easier to play Bartok in a ugly way and make faces while playing barefoot than to actually try to make it sound like actual music.

@@emilelaurent Andrea Bocelli got nominated for 6 Grammys, Gramophone gave him countless positive reviews even for him classical tenor recordings putting him together with Caruso as a great italian tenor and won 3 ECHO klassik. Do you want to know more mediocre artists recognised by the media just because of their commercial success? I have a lot of them. As for now Joshua Bell has way more recording awards than David Oistrakh so we surely know who is the greatest.
