We have three languages at home and or son is 19 months old. He said 'mamma' around 12 months but that is still his only word. He understands so many words in the different languages, points, knows his body parts by pointing and is super interactive with us including copying us. However, he does not seem very interested in trying to say things himself. We are both home (my husband and I) and read a lot, narrate and have toys we practice with. Is there anything we can do to encourage him to say the words, not just understand them?

I know this question is not about the video at hand but wanted to ask a question about this. In the case of developmental stuttering of children possibly 10 yrs or older has there been and studies on the effects of hypnosis in treating the issues? In particular, giving instructions to the patient on how to self hypnosis to try and put oneself in a calm state while speaking? Its already proven that a lot of time people and especially children will start to stutter when nervous but not when they are in a calm setting. If they can put themselves in a calmer mindset before speaking maybe this might help with the problem? Not a doctor but this occurred to me after seeing a kid suffering with it on a news report. Thanks.

What are parents supposed to do if we both have full-time careers?
@toulouseberlioz9102 жыл бұрын
When parents come home from work, and are interacting with their child vocalize everything you do with them. Emphasize words with your tone of voice. If you don't have time to set for speech therapy time, then do it while doing your regular routine when you get home. Do keep in mind if your child is watching too much TV, it could hinder their speaking ability as well. I know it's been 4 months, so you probably have it figured out by now.

I was wondering if I’m speaking Spanish and English with my 17month old baby, when I do these activities should I be using both languages? For examples “open” and “abre”? Or is this confusing my child? Thank you
@sumanshaikh34033 жыл бұрын
Before the age of 5, it's better the child is taught words in the mother tongue i.e. their own language. Because using two different languages will confuse the child and they won't be able to learn both those languages fully. So better talk to them in one language only till they are 4 or 5
@michellemor63113 жыл бұрын
@@sumanshaikh3403 On the contrary, children benefit from exposure to multiple languages from the start of life. Yes, in the first two-three years the child will speak the two languages like it is one language, but with time will learn that they are two separate languages. Even if one parent speaks one language to the child and the other parent speaks another language to the child, the child will learn to choose the learned language taught by that parent TO that parent. The brain is amazing in that way.

My son is 18 months and he isn't saying much. I think pointing and retreiving objects on command may be a better thing to work on for now

Thanks for the video, it is very instructional and helpful. I have 2 questions: does these exercises also apply for a 2-year old child? Also, you been a bilingual mom, do you have any suggestions how to start teaching your child 2 languages? I am curious if you talked to your children in english and spanish since they were babies. Thanks in advance!

Hi Manuel, I'm a bilingual mom too. Babies and toddlers are like a sponge. You can teach them two languages at the same time. They will never get cofused, but it is important to be patient and teach them words in both languages (e.g Orange - Naranja.) Use simple words and samples. Once your kids attend daycare, you can talk with them in Spanish only.

My son is 20 month and he is autistic. I would love if you could share with me more ideas. We speak Spanish at home, but his therapies are in English, and when I do the therapy with him at home I use both languages. is that correct? Thank you!

Hi! Thank you for watching 😊 yes using both languages is perfectly fine! With autism you should do activities that engage social language.. peek a bo, singing songs with gestures, bouncing him on your knee... etc you want to elicit language during social activities... I’ll be putting up a course in a few weeks that will give you step by step instructions on how I conduct therapy :) Best of luck!
