Congratulations Patrick Chan! Thank you for everything you've achieved for Team Canada. Personally I want to thank you for being a wonderful role model as a Chinese Canadian and for highlighting figure skating as a dominant Canadian sport. Seeing your name all over the Chinese newspapers during the 2010 Olympics introduced me to the sport and I've been a fan (especially a fan of yours and all of Team Canada) ever since! I can't imagine my life without having this sport as a form of creative entertainment, which has been an outlet of relief for me during hard times. I hope you realize that your ambitiousness, sacrifices, and persistence has positively impacted so many people's lives beyond your own! Also I want to point out a side note. I somewhat wished we could have had the tracker pointing out the elements and the points accumulating during the broadcasts when Patrick was still competing. It was frustrating that I never really understood how many points were awarded for each element and the final score seemed so arbitrary to me as an uneducated viewer. However, I now believe that maybe it's poetic justice that we didn't have that, because with Patrick's skating, I was always more moved by the way he made us feel emotionally with his ability to interpret the music and tell a story during his programs, rather than the technical elements (not to take away from the fact that he had super clean technical skills at the same time)!
