I'm sorry I grew up watching sports and artistic sports such as skating and appreciated their creativeness. __flation and corrupt judges? Just about every sport, but if you were hating I bet you're just sitting in front of the tv all day versus bringing your butt to a show to boo him in person or provide constructive criticism. At the end of the day it is a sport - nobody died and the man is starting another life at 27 - something haters need to work on or post a video of themselves trying his horrible routine on the ice themselves. Proud to be Canadian and actually remember that these guys have a life too.

I wouldn't go that far, but a true treasure and legend of his time for sure.
this is just an ordinary man who was a boy with some stupid (study) stress at his 10s. your performance was more than inspiring. I didn't know anything in professionalism of figure skating but only you Chen, and perhaps yuna kim back then. I somewhat found you very elegant yet manly sexy, skilled yet artistic, and new yet trendy. as I followed all of your games (on TV lol), I know what you did and how never you gave up. so, in short, I ... had to watch your performance over and over again and I always got F at tests in school. :) THank you

Foe Chinese gene, maybe. But for white people, not so much. On the other hand. YUZURU Hanyu looks so young at 26. you wonder when he will haves real girl friend? Or boyfriend? Is he asexual? Or what? To be honest I would rather look older and have a ordinary man’s life than look always so young but never have a real life.

@@Boymanjusri It doesn't appear that Patrick Chan is 100% Chinese. His parents may be Chinese, but he certainly looks like a half breed.

I won't say mean things about him. But it's definitely time to move on. So it's good that he's doing just that. I don't think Patrick Chan always displayed the best sportsmanship, at times. (i.e, whining about the ice quality at World's 2016, etc.) But he surely had some brilliant moments on the ice prior to the incredible "quad revolution." Yes, it's definitely time to move on.

All I can say to Patrick retiring is, "YAAAAAAAAAAAY!" No more Chanflation and medals for programs where he falls 2-4 times, no more hearing him whine, blaming all his failures on the ice quality, camera distraction or younger, more athletic skaters, and no more of his self-involved ego boasting about how "great" he is or how he was "the bridge" into the super jumpers like Hanyu and Chen or how "no one" combined artistry and athleticism until he came along. LOL It's clear Hanyu and Chen's success had nothing to do with Patrick Chan, and that athleticism and artistry were combined LONG before Chan was even born or out of the kiddie rink by true "total" skaters like Brian Boitano and Alexi Yagudin, among others. He also contributed nothing in the way of quads, as Tim Goeble, the first man to land 3 quads in a program, did so many times previously including at the 2002 Olympics, 8 years BEFORE Chan even came on the scene. Chan had some ability, but he broke NO new ground in any facet of skating. The way they're trying to manufacture some kind of "legacy" for him is disgusting and disrespectful of other skaters who actually did move the sport forward. Thank God this insecure man-child is finally skating off into obscurity.

Cheryle: True. Chan was his own worst enemy. He believed his own press and got a HUGE head. The judges consistently over-scored him for highly flawed programs (Chanflation) to create false momentum for him in the years leading into the Sochi games, so he would be the overwhelming favorite to win. (Too much behind-the-scenes scuttle to add here, but Chanflation was REAL. Everyone was talking about it.) Because the judges were letting Chan win with highly flawed programs, he never felt he had to improve technically...so he didn't. In a way, the judges created their own Frankenstein. Even after the Sochi loss, Chan learned nothing. His "comeback" was a total failure because he, once again, refused to improve technically, expecting his "art and edges" to do all the heavy lifting for him. By that time, Nathan Chen arrived on the scene, and the guys were doing 4-5 quads in a LP, and Chen couldn't even land the triple axle. Glad to see my least favorite skater of all time, followed by another narcissist--Plushenko, skate off into the Canadian sunset.
