I've had the privilege of talking to Patrick Duffy several times myself, both at the Dallas reboot and for a Paley Center carpet for The Man From Atlantis, and my biggest takeaway is how kind and grateful he is. He seems to celebrate his past work the same way we all like to talk about it. I'm very happy for him that he's found a great partner in Linda Purl and I will always welcome him to my TV screen. Another great interview, John!

@@ThatsClassicTV Thank you John! One of the times I spoke with him was on the set of the TNT Dallas reboot. He was directing that week and what he was directing was a bit spoilery so we mostly stuck to what was then called the "Ewing Energies" offices.... but for the afternoon they took us on a shuttle to tour Southfork! That was like Disneyland for a TV geek like me. I can tell you really enjoy doing these interviews, and your passion really makes this channel stand out. Your questions bring out the best stories!

John, this is so ironic as yesterday I received a DALLAS residual for a second season episode "COMING HOME".. Executive Producer Lenny Katzman was a friend (we all worked for Lorimar, I started on THE WALTONS as a PA, eventually as an Assistant Director) btw Lenny's car CA License Plate read "EWING 1" Lenny cast me in COMING HOME (I think I was a Bell-Boy or something like that) to keep my SAG Medical current. I was so lucky as I got to work with Barbara, I don't recall if Patrick was in the scene or not (sorry Patrick).. speaking of Patrick we had a mutual dear friend writer James Prideaux who, in your interview, Patrick mentions as a Playwright friend...anyway, I met Patrick on many occasions, most at Prideaux's apartment at the "Italian Village" in West Hollywood...Patrick was just a wonderful guy...and I had worked with Linda Purl on THE WALTONS and THE YOUNG PIONEERS (another Lorimar Production) I had a crush on Linda, phenomenal actress, she could do it all, what can I say. I have to laugh looking back at working on DALLAS...it was shot on Stage 8 at MGM and it had been pouring rain for days, and the street outside Stage 8 was flooded, in fact, they had to place sandbags at the doors to keep the water off the set, and the Wardrobe Guy (I think it was Bob Miller) had to roll my pants up and literally carry me to the set so as not to soak the wardrobe. Patrick will remember that. I've been receiving residuals for many shows I worked on in the 70's and 80's but hadn't gotten anything from DALLAS in years. Just yesterday I got a residual for COMING HOME...it was Labeled "Free Internet" whatever that means $11.00, not bad for a show I worked on 45 years ago! Perhaps, John, you could put me in touch with Patrick, Linda too. I'd appreciate that, it would be fun to catch up! Thank you for another great THAT'S CLASSIC!

Great interview with Patrick Duffy. Everything from The Man from Atlantis, Dallas (even a Knots Landing shout out), Step by Step and B&B. He was so classy and discussed everything with great detail. The only thing I thought was odd about the Dallas discussion was there was no mention of the main storyline of the show which was Bobby & Pam (aka Romeo & Juliette). Of course, maybe he didn’t want to discuss it but he mentioned (or was asked) practically about the whole cast except Victoria Principal. Anyway, keep up the good work. These interviews with these actors (I’m 59) always me look back at happy times.

Enjoyed all of these series immensely, but Patrick will always be the Man from Atlantis for me. I was such a major superhero, comicbook and sci-fi, and even water-theme fan as a kid. So his show was made for me. I really wanted him to be Aquaman without a doubt, but also me and my buddies kept wishing his series had been done as Namor the Sub-Mariner (a name, shockingly, now part of the mainstream popculture). And in keeping with that we really hoped for him as the Man from Atlantis to appear with Bixby-Ferigno Hulk. Doubt they'd do it now, but it'd still be cool to do a cartoon movie with Patrick voicing the character, the way that Adam West did with Batman in a few cartoon movies in recent years. Another great interview.

He says of Victoria Principal who plays Pamela. "I have never even conversed with her off the set. But on set we have a great working relationship I think it's because we play such a lousy people." -------- Being paired with VP (whom Duffy calls"the upstage artist of the world "was difficult at first." We were in constant state of competition, we were very territorial in front of the camera. Their relationship improved during Dallas'third season when Duffy made his debut as director " I developed an appreciation for her and I think for the first time she started to trust me".

Ok, this is crazy, but, in my back closet, I still have the “Who shot J.R?” t-shirt I bought back then. (I’m a Texas female. Haha). My young (6 yr- 8 yr or so) son and I were ready for Friday night shows. He loved Knight Rider, so we’d sit and eat our dinner in front of the tv and watch that. I don’t think I missed an episode of Dallas. We also both watched (and LOVED) The Incredible Hulk on Wednesdays. Yes, audiences HATED the dream year! To be honest, when it happened, you felt like you wasted soooooo much of your time to watch it and then… nope, it didn’t happen. 😡 😂

Plus, I live in the panhandle of Texas, but had a brother and sister in-law in Dallas. While visiting one time, we took a tour to the Dallas ranch set in Plano (right outside of Dallas). You couldn’t go in because it (obviously) had an actual owner and they lived there, but you could walk around the outside. I even remember as a souvenir, they had J.R. on a fake currency bill. I ‘may’ still have that also. 😂

@@ThatsClassicTV you’re welcome! I really wish we got a resolution to Dallas 2.0, but we didn’t! Some can point to Larry’s death and the change at TNT, and all are solid points, but going into s3 , Dallas had a ton of momentum and the slate was wide open! The Judith light brothel garbage, along with Elena trying to go against the Ewings now with that dude was just whack! Waiting till the very end to make John Ross fulfill his transformation was another big mistake! Mitch Pileggi is an amazing actor and villain and could’ve been enough for the show to make him the next big baddy, but Judith Light sucked all mystique, interest and intrigue out of Harris Ryland!
