Lots of parallels in Monk and the Mentalist from the standpoint of personal loss. Monk lost Trudy and clung to her for years and sought to find her killer...never knowing his identity. Somehow though, in Mentalist, the story was more deeply affecting AND more visceral. Jane's pain was more palpable because unlike in Monk, Jane's loss was attributable to his own arrogance.

Watch Jane's face slowly drop as Kristina speaks. He briefly holds it together as she walks away, then breaks down when he believes no one's looking. Van Pelt does see, and slowly closes the door and walks away to let him grieve in peace. This man is carrying around a lot of grief and guilt.

I think a lot of people are missing the point, that yes even if the scenario that "your daughter never woke up, she didn't know what happened, she wasn't scared not even for a second" is an unrealistic scenario, for jane it is believeable because it's supposed to be a message from his wife. His wife would know his grief, and would want him to feel at least a little more at ease even if it's not the full truth, and that makes Kristinas message so much more important to him.
@smurfyday2 жыл бұрын
Nope, you're missing the point. Frye met a ghastly end at the hands of RJ, knowing Jane's experience and repeating the same mistake, shows she's delusional. And Bruno Heller confirmed there wasn't any real psychic on the show, even if he didn't go as far as saying there couldn't have been (on the show... he himself didn't believe). So anyone who thinks there's any truth to Frye's ramblings lack either comprehension or logic.
