This is so deep. You get a real sense of the depth of the song when the inventor plays it. So much longing in this, Madonna did a great job putting that across with he vocal. I wanna go back to San Pedro now.

madonna usually writes the melodies along with the lyrics, on top of the music. She didn't write La Isla Bonita "with" Leonard; the music was written and the song was offered to her, and she wrote the melody and lyrics on top, while in Hong Kong actually! In fact, the song was originally offered to Michael Jackson, who rejected it, and the other songwriter, Gaitsch, said he was relieved that it went to madonna in the end.

He put music to her lyrics! That´s a big difference. Its a collaboration that maybe they both needed since, Madonna was not that musical in the beginning she learned as she went a long just as she did learn how to play the guitar very late in life. As little as he had to do with her lyrics as did she in the music process, she said yes and no, but didn´t sit down and play out the music together with him. Like celebrities who design clothes, other make the clothes and show options and they pick.

I agree with you, lutalice. It was just an opinion based on what I hear, because I like to hear and feel a lot of songs including background details. I didn't take into account the fact that there are a lot of fans taking it seriously, so you're right. I can recognize which are from Leonard just hearing (not from memory), but now some people clarified me that melodies from her are added on top of Leonard's, so I think both comments are valid.

ANYWAY the reason your comment annoyed me is because you can't say "it's clear" that the melodies come from Pat. You can't base a comment like that on 'good hearing,' sorry. Sometimes when the music is written for a song, there might already be a rough idea for a melody, other times not. With La Isla Bonita, i just happen to know the story behind the writing of that particular song. But Madonna, & several of her collaborators have stated that in most cases the melodies come from madonna herself.

I never said that Madonna never composes. I know she does. I was referring to the melodies of this song in particular. But it's true that I cannot know for sure because I don't know them personally (despite having her a few meters distance in a set during one of her films, hehe). The question is How could YOU know. This is what label says. If you trust what is printed, then I have nothing to say. I just put a thought to share opinions, based on what I hear. I'm also a Madonna's music fan.

Your point may be based on what the CD cover says, but it's like saying that all Beatles's songs are from Lennon & McCartney, and we know this is not true. It is clear that melodies are from Leonard and sure Madonna add lyrics and some variations to the original. In the album, also remixers put their part, but depends on the producer (Leonard).

Then Rivers recorded in '94 could be the way to go, unless of course you already own it. Based on condensed improvs, Pat's approach on the grand piano is very similar to what's in these videos, though some of the tracks are backed up by one or a few other acoustic instruments. Just love the stories/ diary entries that go with each track. Caught some fish lately, Pat?

BoogieWoogieMusic Wrong. She and he are credited as writing songs together because "she wrote the lyrics and I the melody (music)" as my Uncle Pat stated in interviews. She had very little to do with the music in the songs he wrote.
