A Matthew Zapruder talk about John Ashberry led me here. Glad I found the KZbin channel and subscribed to the podcast as well.

Brilliant episode! I noticed that "its truth is timeless" is left out of the transcription shown on screen. Are there multiple versions of this poem published?

Thanks, Catherine! We used this version of Ashbery's poem: "www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/101694/the-one-thing-that-can-save-america". I didn't know about the multiple versions, though -- super fascinating!

He doesn't have a twitter (unfortunately), so the handle is only for IG. Sorry for the confusion!

Irritation! I find most constraints irritating, and that often is interesting in the context of shared space, community, conversations. Themes. Agreed strategies for presenting material. Often my work flows emotionally in so many areas, so many spaces, that it's challenging to commit to one sense of it, one chiseled image of what the work should be. This is very dissonant with expectation and a simplistic understanding of inclusion. And results in irritation. :)

I feel that! A huge irritation for me is also that sense that I'm not quite fitting into -- and should -- the idea of what the work should be. Thanks for always leaving such thoughtful comments this season!
