Stood behind him at a practice court once, just diggin' that kick serve! Rafter was a seriously great player - as was Hewitt - and credit to tennis. Rafter is a great story, born in Mt Isa...a very hot mining town a LONG way from everywhere. From there a dual U.S Open champ' came (1 of 10 kids !!) ; #1 for a very short time in - maybe - 1998 Rafter had a pro' game and a fierce work ethic to stay in shape. A young Federer admitted to being intimidated by him....

Rafter , as seen here , was one of the top 3 net players of the nineties & early 2000s i rekon He had a great all round game to boot ; as proven by his results of every surface But his net play just towers above the best of the modern era -

⁠​⁠@@amitpatel3071lol no, he never made a grand slam final and rafter leads the head to head 3-2. Hen men didn’t have a good serve and was basically a serve volleyer without a strong serve so half the required equation is already missing. Rafters kick serve was a beast.

Rafter reminds Edberg a bit, not very strong but very accurate serve, neat volleys and decent play from the back. A joy to watch!
