I've played golf for 11 years now, and it is clear that what he did with his infamous bunker shot was cheating. He moved sand from behind the ball in an effort to improve his lie. The rules of golf state clearly that prior to the shot being struck, the player's club cannot come into contact with the sand in any way, as that is deemed as improving the lie. As several comments said, "once a cheater, always a cheater". He can improve his overall image, but his reputation will forever be tainted by the facts.

@@rptucker3871 Just because he claims he didn’t know, doesn’t mean he actually didn’t. He was aware he cheated on a really big stage, for the entire world to practically see, and wanted to pull the focus away from the fact he deliberately chose to do that. And it definitely doesn’t change the fact it was a rules violation. It was clearly a deliberate sweep of the club behind the golf ball, before the shot was struck. Regardless of intent, it’s still improving the lie, which in a bunker is a 2 shot penalty. It was clear that he didn’t do it by accident. He was 100% aware of the rule, but chose not to follow it based on what the video showed, and his actions in that given moment and his responses afterwards. I personally do not respect his integrity as a player, and probably never will. I 100% understand where your coming from. No hurt feelings here at all bro.

When he continues to defend,deflect and deny his past , it continues to be his present reality. This is the difference between growing and remaining stuck in life .

This was in 2015 . Since then the book went on The NY Times Best Seller list. Patrick got no retraction from the author. Patrick then went on to erase any doubts we might have had about the validity of the book by raking the bunker at the 2020 Hero World Challenge. Peter Kostis has said that he's seen Reid improve his lie "several times".
