Because they don't find him funny. That's very common in comedy. Whenever you see a comedian bomb, the crowd usually becomes aggressive. Say what you want about the guys success and handwork, but he's not a good comedian. He uses crowd work that most of the time relies on the audience member to be the one coming up with the joke and punchline. His fan base is mostly female, also for a reason. Women will find him funnier because he's good-looking and charismatic. Guys will find him less funny for that exact reason. Being a comedian is the one job where you have to make yourself appear worse off than the audience, or they'll hate you. Nobody goes to the successful guy to hear funny life stories. They go to the downtrodden. Anyway, that's my personal opinion, he's been given easy laughs by women most his laugh which has heavily influenced his understanding of comedy

Maybe for the most part, but it depends. So many attractive people, men and women, are objectified constantly and not taken seriously. As a woman, I don’t really think or myself as super attractive, but I find myself getting hit on all the time, checked out etc.. sure I could go to bars and get drunk without paying for a single drink, but I’m also constantly sexualized/objectified, harassed, and not taken seriously. When I was in HS, there was a guy that had a huge crush on me, but when he found out that I lost my virginity, he HATED me. Once even squeezing me by the throat, literally choking me. In college, a guy that was obsessed with me threatened me and called me a ‘n*gger’ when I rejected him. I feel like this happens a lot to other women who are found attractive by a lot of people. It’s like some guys feel entitled to me just bc I’m supposedly attractive, and gave them some attention. I could be wrong, just speaking thru experience. It can be really lonely too, bc sometimes people only associated with me bc of how I look, creating really superficial relationships/encounters. And it’s clear that Matt isn’t taken seriously by a lot of people and are really judgmental just bc he’s so attractive; he has to prove himself more so than others just bc he’s so attractive

Only a handful of acceptions become popular immediately.

I think his issue is the same for child actors with successful actor parents. Unless you are the best at it, nobody will beleive that the hard work you put in had anything to do with your success. For the child actor, no matter how good you are everyone will believe that you are successful because of your parents. And for him, no matter how good he is or how hard he's worked, everyone will be convinced he's successful because he's attractive. The fact that his main audience is women and the fact that his attractiveness is main thing those women mention about him, helps to prove that right. Do I find him funny, not really, but I don't mind listening to him for a little. But if I'm being completely honest I think his success is mostly due to women finding him attractive. But I'm not knocking him for it, whatever works for you. Plenty of men are successful because women find them attractive and most women are successful because both men and women find them attractive. It's just human nature nothing wrong with it so there's no reason to act like it isn't true.

I dont know who he is and i'm 39, but from hearing the things that he talks about I can somehow relate to it, because girls also discriped me as "handsome" a lot and I can 100% confirm that the whole "just copy stupid stereotype situations and make it sound dumb by mocking it" is a very good way to break the ice, because it's all about creating an excuse for interaction. You can ask the most intimit things if you just say "what are you girls always saying?" before it and based on how she responds you know if you can score or if she is not interested. I mean i would feel sorry for the "not a pilot" guy, but talking with her i might ask her the same thing to follow it up with "I'm also not a pilot, so if you want a pilot I'm not your guy" and I will INSTANDLY know if she was thinking about me having her or not. She is unsure? Just look at her and say "I'm sorry if i said something wrong... you're just so beautiful and i really like you" so you just overflow her brain with "happy thoughts" that her mind will tell her "do it... it's a good idea... he makes you happy and he is good looking... give it a try". Dont hate the player... hate the game. I Learned this from a friend who got a girl at a club but we changed location and i asked him "are you not sad that we left?" and he was like "nah... i just do my thing... i find another one" AND HE DID. Sure you need the looks or money (that can also buy you looks) but in the end having game is key. You cant score if you dont shoot

Eh. His material isn't for me but some of the comedians I have found genuinely funny aren't buzzed about by a large(r) fanbase. Much like music there is a business way to approach things given what you have to work with. Here's the rub that a lot of people don't get: people are hating on him because he is being shoved in the faces of everyone on earth. He attracts a vapid and stupid audience who are going to see him because he is popular, not because they enjoy comedy. It's literally the recipe that ruins an industry by switching the content from what is real to what sells. Both standup comedy and podcasting are slowly failing - esp once this bubble pops of comedians doing arenas and world tours. It's not sustainable and not improving the comedy game - it's merging itself with social media to become a money-generating machine.
@beansfebreeze Жыл бұрын
@rickeykoga2312 this feels like a very one sided take. Comedy is in a great place for women and minorities specifically because of social media giving them exposure they wouldn't have had before due to being too "niche" for general audiences. If Matt Rife is the price to pay for that then it's not a big deal lmao

I remembered watching "Only Fans" during the pandemic, 1st time seeing anything of Matt Rife. I thought that this guy is going to get big. His crowd work was solid (seems to be a 'right of passage' right now in comedy), his storytelling is decent. He knows who his audience is, and what he brings and he leans all the way into it. @Brandon-vd7er successful comedians are in their 30s and 40s and have been doing it for years. These aren't arena sell out comedians, that's like 0.01 percent of comedians. Most comedians will never be on your radar because they're not known enough. Do you know every doctor in the country, every teacher? NO. So why THE FXCK do you think all comedians who have worked hard for a certain amount of years deserve international fame and success? You do not go into comedy to be a millionaire. You do not become a comedian to be famous. It is a grind, you will suck d for years of your life. I've listened to 1000s of hours of comedy podcasts. Are they all liars or something? You ever watch kill tony? Hundreds of comedians show up to get their name called out of a hat to do a 1 minute set. Every time, hundreds of people you will never know or hear of. People who have been doing comedy for years.

@@WalkingPaceWP Actually.. the majority of kill tony comedians are people that have been doing it for less than 10 years.. usually around 5.. or less. Btw.. The problem is he isn't funny. He has audience of just women who find him hot. It's not that deep. If he's successful due to women paying for his shows - more power to him. Is he a good comedian? Not really.
