After leaving your toxic relationship there are some things to remember...
1. Notice your feelings of freedom.
2. It's important to keep the toxic person away from you.
3. Detoxing from the toxic relationship is going to take some time.

Toxic people never own their stuff. There is a book by Gary Thomas called when to walk away. Self care, self preservation is necessary. These toxic people will find others victims unfortunately but I don't need abuse! May God give us wisdom and heal our wounds from abusive people. Thank you Patrick for the balance you bring and giving others permission to take care of themselves with these abusers.

You mentioned the book When To Walk Away and my narcissistic husband actually bought it awhile ago! I couldnt believe it. I guess he believes that I am toxic? Not sure. He is Mr Jeckyll/Hyde definitely.

Blaming --- Always! Denial --- Always! Lies --- Always! Deception --- Always! ♥ Take time to detox ♥ Gotta say ... it's hard to get used to your short clips, when we used to get Patrick D for 20+ min ;) Maybe you are planning on doing your own show soon?

That was perfect Patrick. Reminding the writer of the email of how much better she felt was key. Most women that have been in toxic relationships of any kind have spent years or decades questioning their thoughts and decisions. What she feels is so normal. I think too, as women who love Jesus... we want to choose love and forgiveness-which we can but may need to keep loving them From a distance. Thanks Patrick ! as a woman and a believer I so understand what she’s feeling.

I went through this myself, and am in the season of reconciling. The periods of silence are as important as the times of words. It was over ten years of a estrangement. I always think of the old illustration of the dark room where film is developed. It's when you think nothing is happening when the most beautiful creations are being formed. God is doing amazing things during the times when we have to seperate a while, it gives us time and space to grow and be under His Wing . I encourage this person also to pray for their family members. I am amazed, now, how God honored those prayers during my season of silence. It's a beautiful way to show love, and still be safe. There are some relationships that will not be reconciled, but let God lead that process. If it's Him leading, I have noticed, both parties will be taking steps to make amends and work at boundaries. Great topic! Enjoy your amazing life today, Patrick and everyone who follows Him on this exciting narrow path.

Give them an inch… and they’ll take a mile, or like in the movie The Gofather (part 3?): “Every time I try to get out, they just keep pulling me back in!” Psychic bloodsuckers or energy vampires may not be either a) capable or b) willing to respect or honor your boundaries. So, if you set strict limitations on, say, time spent around them, then you can expect to get those boundaries pushed or bulldozed as soon as you are within range of your limitation’s goal. Right? I’d maybe start with a letter or a postcard instead of a visit. You don’t need to be physically present to show you care. See how that is received, and be aware that they might be suspicious of you cutting them off one minute and coming back around to show them how strong you’ve gotten without them ;) Don’t tempt fate too much. Keep expectations realistic for the precedent previously set in your relationship.
