I wish my teacher was this straight forward. I like how this guy just teaches what you want to know without spewing a bunch of other irrelevant stuff that'll confuse us on what's the main focus

Without understanding why it works, this "knowledge" is easily forgettable and almost useless in a long run. Thats why you NEED a teacher - because you do not understand What is important to concentrate your attention on.

the leading coefficient needs to be a 1; in this case it is 2 (the number in front of x). You could first multiply the numerator and denominator by 1/2 and then proceed.

Man you really helped me with that long division and I have been struggling hard with this synthetic division too until I saw your video and realized you have to make the number you divide by negative if it was positive or positive if it was negative. That was all that was messing me up!!!! Thanks, your a life-saver.

I'm not one to comment on videos like this, but I really have to thank you for this video. my algebra teacher is the type of person that claimed it "isn't her problem that I don't get it" which is especially frustrating since I had to leave class for AP registration.

You would use Long Division of a Polynomial. He's got a video for that too, just look it up.

No problem. Why does the the (x - 2) turn into + 2 for the calculation? Because if (x - 2) = 0, then x = 2! So if 3x - 2 = 0, 3x = 2, therefore x = 2/3. So u use 2/3 in your calculation.

Vivek Patel that doesn't work, you need to factor out the coeficient of x before dividing, then divide the resulting expression by that coeficient (in this case that would be 3).
