I'm nearly a Certified Public Accountant and I've had at least 7 math teachers fail at teaching me basic calculus. After just an hour of watching your vids, I feel as if I've just undone the accumulated stress that has plagued me since I was a junior in high school. Thank you so freaking much.

@neelo4 we are assuming y in defined in terms of x in these cases; in the multivariable case, both variables are independent. you should review implicit diff from calc 1 if you are confused

hey this was nicely explained. My cal professor is notorious for starting with advanced examples. I don't find that starting with an advanced example to demonstrate the basic ideas, and method is a very good idea (probably why so many people fail...). This, however, starts at a basic level and actually explains each step. Good job sir!

How would we do an implicit differentiation on something like: cos (x-y) + sin y = sqrt(2) I don't know how to factor out a dy/dx since one of them will be inside of the -sin (x-y(dy/dx))
@mosesaltair389311 жыл бұрын
If Y is to the first power on the right side, then, wouldn't the chain rule give you 1y times y^0 which is just one? SO, you're left with y?
@katetaylor199313 жыл бұрын
If in part of the problem we have to take the derivative of, say, 3y, would it turn out to just be 3, or would it be 3(dy/dx)?

@ZaheeirAliVZ13 жыл бұрын
dude you just became my personal tutor... thanks alot >.<
@ronniemonnie13 жыл бұрын
@gethisoverwithit Ok, soo =D you start off with your x^(1/2) + y^(1/2) = 1 and then you take the derivative, making sure not to forget to place your (dy/dx) next to any y terms (1/2)x^(-1/2) + (1/2)y^(-1/2)(dy/dx) = 0 now just move all your non-dy/dx terms to the right (1/2)y^(-1/2)(dy/dx) =(-1/2)x^(-1/2)
