Thanks. Being a guest on "The Piano Guy" is one of my favorite things about being a musician.

I wish I had you as my teacher when I was a kid. I was taught by a catholic nun - I didn't exactly get a fun choice in music content at the time. I still remember practicing endless arpeggios

Crazy has such a soothing melody, Willie Nelson will forever stand as creating a timeless classic, as will Patsy Cline for making it instantly recognizable

I think this is wonderful. I was just telling my son about it...he works for Music and Arts and "Scott's" books are really popular sellers there especially for Xmas and especially surprising as we have had a huge snow storm. I'm glad I looked up this video it really breaks the song down

What a wonderful video! Thanks for posting these videos, they are such a great learning source for all of us young musicians trying to learn the tricks of the trade! Also that bit about time signatures was amazingly helpful and it helps me understand the feel of the bass in the octave stride ragtime blues feel of songs. Amazing how much easier it is to hit the notes at the right times when you know what feel you are supposed to have for the song. A masterful concept for the piano...

Thank you. It would be great if the sheet music is bundled with the video for purchase. I am interested in a complete popular piano jazz DVD, perhaps with Bradley Sowash, along with sheet music. I am looking forward to your new site. Thanks much for your quick reply!

Excellent. Was just working on an arragnement, and this has given me a few ideas. I notice you dont play the G# in the melody (that corresponds to "I'm") - a nice passing note I think.

Curious why he changed the key. It's originally in Bb. And what he calls A7, would really be C# 1/2 Dim. I've watched Willie Nelson play it live (He wrote the song, as most know) and he always played that chord as 1/2 Dim.

Too Bad he's teaching the song in the wrong key.
@pianoinaflash5 жыл бұрын
I'm just responding because I think this can be a teachable moment... There is no "right or wrong" key for a tune (or, probably more accurately a non-classical tune). What makes the key "right" for someone is whether or not it is in a spot that fits their vocal range. So "my" key for the tune Misty might be best in F, while your key for the same tune might be Ab, assuming we don't have identical vocal ranges. Another big myth is that the key a tune is recorded in makes "that" the key of all keys for that tune. It's just not true... There is often a difference between the key a composer first wrote a tune, and the key that some performer made it famous in a recording (for the same reason I just mentioned... that being the performer correctly transposed it to a key that fit his/her vocal range. Check out this other vid here on my YT channel for a deeper conversation about transposing to find your vocal range if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJWsaHijmb6Lq5o

Sorry, I should have stated....I wished that you would have taught the song in the original key that Patsy Cline recorded....Bb@@pianoinaflash
@fiddler18614 жыл бұрын
@@pianoinaflash As an accompanist, I have to change the key for nearly every singer, to get it within their range. As a kid, I had to learn to transpose on the fly, and I just started thinking and playing in the Nashville Numbering System as a. result. I always did try to avoid C# though. my brain just couldn't do that.
@ginohernandez37708 жыл бұрын
wrong key.
@pianoinaflash8 жыл бұрын
Do you mean we didn't play it in the key Patsy Cline recorded it in? That does not make it "wrong", just transposed. I just responded to your comment as a "teaching moment" because a lot of people really don't understand that concept. There is no inherently right or wrong key for a tune. In fact, I would argue (due the number of times I have heard singers absolutely butcher this tune) that, even if they are trying to sing it in the particular key of some famous recording they are singing it in the "wrong" key for them due to their vocal range needing to fit the tune they are singing. That's why you should play a tune in a key that works for you (usually for vocal range reasons). In our case for the TV show, we wanted to play it in a key that would be easy to demonstrate for the audience. Hope that clears some things up for some people...
