Would it be possible to explain why you continue to pay your monthly rent for a Bar which isn’t worth opening and may be like this for a very long time ? Did you pay a huge upfront amount for the lease so are hoping to ride out the storm ? If not then surely you are better stopping throwing good money after bad and instead handing the keys back in and flying back to the UK assuming you aren’t tied down in Thailand through family commitments ?

Incredible over reaction to this virus is probably the biggest act of self harm the USA, Thailand , the UK , indeed the whole world has ever inflicted upon itself . Mass hysteria ... like watching a car crash in slow motion . Anyway thank you for keeping us updated Nick , very sad.

Nope. Not overreacting. Thailand and others did what they should've done. The US where im from waisted precious time and should've locked down harder much earlier and we could've been in the clear by now. Overall the lock downs as sad as they are for businesses were and are worth it. People don't realize how many people would've died otherwise. I addition, we still don't know what it does to your body if you survive it.

@@vipakamichollyhood wrong. Sweden had it almost right. Only the elderly and those with heart/lung issues should have been locked down. That was the ONLY accurate info that came out of China. It's hard to believe it's the same place I first saw back around 2000. It was genuinely difficult to even walk from Second Road to the beach just about any time of day or night, with all the screaming girls trying to drag you into their bar! As soon as you got past one, they'd be ready to grab you at the next, and it was wall to wall... or rather, road to road!

I was in Patts Feb 2019, only bars that had people were Shooters and Pandora. Strong Baht killed sois 7 and 8 years ago, not to mention internet dating, Tinder, and greed. Back in 2011 you could get a fit girl for 1000thb longtime. That was $30aud ! ( if you kept her 10 hrs that was $3 an hour). Fast Forward to 2019 a fit girl wanted 2000baht Short time, that's $100aud for an hour or two, so that's 33× more expensive. Money saved on pay 4 play used to pay for your trip! Having said all that maybe a post covid Pattaya will see a reset on prices, friendlier and fitter girls. Hope springs eternal ! Good luck with your bar mate . 👍

Still, most of those bars will open in a few days when we get back to some normality. The tide of opinion is changing in uk- people have had enough of lockdown. My one worry about Thailand is that they have not gone through what we have yet. This thing is here to stay and we will have to learn to live with it.

This global scamdemic is destroying small businesses and the working class. Breaks my heart to see all the local businesses in my town gone forever. At least we get Government aid so we will not starve unlike in places like the Philipines where you fend for yourself. I am saying this to encourage others to maybe do the same. I have adopted a grandmother for the past seven months I have sent her $125 per month to ensure she has food and medication. They never asked for me to do this I did it because I can. Ahhh the Witherspoons breakfast, classic. That was a surprise price but at least they are going to do an offer. Its really is a shame to see so many bars closed or so quiet. It must be hard for the owners to open all day and try to sell a few beers and some food if they are lucky. The prices are really low so little or no profits for them. I really hope they will service until next year. Nick I hope you can sort you bar too mate. Some news in England today there was a test on a vaccine and they are saying the trails are 90% protection against Covid. Fingers crossed one of these vaccine will work.

As per Boeasy : It’s time to cut all losses ..... At least a year before things will start to improve. Tourists across the world won’t have the money to spend. The TH exchange rate is crippling (for businesses as well) wasn’t it Panasonic TH closing the other day? - another 1000 jobs gone to Vietnam. This crisis is affecting the world, it will be a long road to recovery. The TH government is relying on domestic tourism which won’t support the businesses. There is no quick fix

@@piratescove3749 exactly. I’m told it will take over a year to create enough of a vaccine (once one is developed that proves effective) for the general population. Healthcare workers and politicians and celebrities will get it first. The UAE is bouncing back (according to friends that live there). Anyone can travel there; no quarantine - just get a test 96 hrs or less before the flight; retested at DXB and install a tracing app. You don’t have to be too cynical to think THA and other countries dependent on tourism are not interested in helping their own economy out. Sad. Thanks China.

Lot of comments about how expensive now , which is fair , only thing is a lot of people in the Oil field and Heavy construction projects flew over on Company paid airfare, and usually had Per diem living allowance and retainer salary to keep them tied to company and had huge money to spend on there 30 days , 14 days vacation, but am not sure if these guys are around as that work has dried up , so even when things open up the big money spending may be gone , days guys dropping 30,000 bht a night may be gone

I think any area can recover but the bars need to work together to come up with a marketing plan of their own to make a particular soi appealing. I look as an example to Las Vegas. For those that can remember downtown Las Vegas was a mess until they came up with a cool idea to make it a hip and fun place to go to with an incredible light display and amazing deals. Whether it's soi seven soi eight or soi pot hole this is what needs to happen in my opinion of course. I always thought walking Street should emulate the Las Vegas concept as well for example the walking street sign should always be lit and incredibly dynamic. All of the bars on the main drag should be required to have impressive lighting to make walking straight more appealing. Thoughts?

Great Video as always Nick keep up the good work. As I see it now that there is a western approved vaccine available. I believe countries like Thailand and others are going to wait until they get a certain level of their population vaccinated before they fully open up to international tourism, maybe 60 to 90% of their population vaccinated before they fully open up. Given the logistics of manufacturing enough and distributing enough of the vaccine to their population this probably wont happen until the start of 2022. They may in the fall of 2021 begin some miner opening to intentional tourist who can show proof of vaccination. Just my thoughts. Cant wait to return have many happy memories of Thailand.
