I have watched your tutorials on circle skirts and shawl collar and when I decided to watch that of bodice pattern, I laughed so hard when I saw all the calculations, I felt it wasn't suppose to be this difficult. Then I said to My self, Diane wouldnt have spent so much time teaching if it wasn't necessary. So with my notepad and calculator and pattern paper, I watched and watched and I was able to really understand what you were talking about. Thank you so much Diane. Ps. People, Pls get the measurement table and input your figures before you start. Everything is smooth sails after that. And if you don't measure in cm, convert your inches to cm. There are two sides to a tape rule after all.

Hi Diane, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing this amazing video! Your method of drafting made it quite easy to follow and understand. I’m creating a wedding jumpsuit for my amazing client and I feel much more at ease after using your method to draft a bodice block pattern. I’m working with very unusual materials (latex) but the fit needs to look exceptional, especially on her wedding day. On another note, your soothing voice made following your video very enjoyable. I felt like I was back in grade school, but without all the yelling😁. You should start a channel reading bed time stories 😍. Have a lovely evening and thank you again Diane for all your help!

Thank you. I noticed in the comment section some people said that it looks a bit complicated......... believe me, the more complicated it is the best fit u get.

Hi Diane. So I decided to make a plus size bodice for a client of mine with a 139,5cm bust. Which it kind of scared me at first because I love making cothes for everyone, but this size made me nervous. However I went for it. So I used this method and it worked. With just few changes on the bust level of the back. Remember on the bust level you measured 1/2 shoulder blade + 0.25cm ease. I did that. Then the next step was to measure from that shoulder blade point 1/4 BA + 0.25 ease and divide it by 2. I decided to not divide by 2 because it made the difference between the bust and waist look rediculous and made the bust way too small. Like the waist was much bigger than the bust. So what I did was instead of using half the measurement to find side seam of the back, I used 3/4 measurements instead. Increasing the side seam to look less steep and giving the bust much needed allowance. I remember you telling me that the armhole might be too big, in this case the armhole was perfect for the size of my client. However there were small needed alterations on the front chest width. So I decided to use contouring techniques I found on the net and adjusted them a bit on the pattern to manupilate it so it fits my client. I also got a 10cm dart, which also helped give enough room for drape on the bust. This was incredible as it did not take me too long to make. This will now become the only bodice making technique I will ever use. You have made my life a lot easier. THANK YOU!

Wow, what a great fit!! That's the best fitting bodice I've ever made. Thank you!! I did find I had to drop the front neck point 1cm, but other than that, perfect. I am so happy the video is in Metric. Being an Australian I don't know Imperial at all. I love that you have constructed it using a shoulder dart. It is perfect for constructing a princess line. Have you ever considered a video on fitting problems? I find this information the hardest to find in video format. :) One thing, we were taught to add 2mm to the centre back across the shoulders, so that the back line is not straight when adding seam allowance to the CB. Is there any reason you don't do this?
@DianeDezieltoolfully
@DianeDezieltoolfully 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Candice, I never heard about that 2mm, but one thing I know, is that when I start there where all kind of rules in the pattern making, but now, there is no rules or all rules are good, if it work for you. Personally I find it easier to have my center back straight, but for and elongated bodice I do go in a little at the waist level.

Hello Diana, My mannequin is a draping one, I think there are the best because there made to pin on, not only to present garment. If I had more budget, I would get the one with the legs. Also some have a more realistic (buttock) than mine. The ajustable one is not suitable for draping because all the most important area are empty (center an waist). The best place to get a new one now is PGM, but even a very old second hand is good. I hope this will help you. Diane

Hello Kim, BA is Bust Arc, so 1/2 of the bust all around measurement, since the construction is 1/2 a body. you could also get my free pdf in All the free PDF in my WIX SITE : dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully Direct link; dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully/free-downloadSo you will be able to compare with my measurement.Diane

Hi, is someone able to explain why we did the shoulder dart pivot and what it means? have we eliminated the dart there? I also I didn't understand the point about moving the waist dart. Would really really appreciate help as I spent all day on this pattern and finally cracked it but no idea about the darts!

Hi Liezel, I see you asked your question 9 months ago and no one bothered to answer your question. I too ask myself the same question and had to scroll down for about a half hour to find that BA means Bust Arc. I have no idea how to get the bust arc measurement but thought since every single person in the comments section must have known what BA was since no one but us had that question.

Hello Carole, BA is for Bust Arc, this is 1/2 the bust measurement, I use this term because we make a 1/2 bodice. you could also get All the free PDF in my WIX SITE : dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully Direct link; dianedezie7.wixsite.com/toolfully/free-download Diane

I have followed this video and the pdf steps - thank you for putting together such a detailed guide. But my draft has the front and back side seams overlapping at the waist, and when I measure the full width on the bust line from centre back to front, it is 4cm short of my full bust measurement. I have drafted it twice, remeasured myself and each of the lines but still having the same issue :(

Hi Phyllis, at minute 8:54, I measure from the top line (1 cm higher than the back) to the bust level than divide by 3, the point is 1/3 from the bust up. Diane

Yesterday i did pattern, measurements that you used is almost the same as my difference is only waistline But for some reason it didnt work my back is bigger than front. It's shouldn't be like that because of bust front must be bigger . And when i cut my front dart to be able to move my shoulder becomes smaller than 12cm Bust-92 Waist 80 Sholder blade 38 Apex 20 Sholder 12 Center back 42

This is amazing!! So clear. Why did you move the dart from the top to the shoulder?? What do you use the notches for?
@DianeDezieltoolfully
@DianeDezieltoolfully 7 жыл бұрын
we usually place the dart at the middle of the shoulder (princess line) to match the back shoulder dart but as you could see on the pivoting video it could be place everywhere. the notches are used to sew the sleeve in the armhole.

what if my measurements are in inches do I have to add the extra 0.75, 0.25cm as they are or I have to convert them, because I converted the bust and waist measurements but was very difficult converting the shoulder blade 0.25cm into inches so I'm stuck right now

Hi Diane my side seams didn’t align, it was off by .4mm. Do you think I did something wrong? I can just easily ease that in right? And the back shoulders are about .4mm longer than the front so I would just ease that with the front shoulder right? Thank you!
@DianeDezieltoolfully
@DianeDezieltoolfully 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Del, On the side seam, if you have a difference you should fix it (it's normal since the front is more angle) just add the 4 mm to the back side seam and retrace the waist from the new point to the side of the dart with a slight curve. On the shoulder it's normal, we did it with a 4 mm ease on the back shoulder. the reason for the ease is that the body is different in the back & the front, it's curving out on back & in in the front. Keep it like that on your basic bodice sloper, but you will be able to eliminate it for certain style with looser fit. Diane

Hello Diane, Thank you so much for this and all your videos, they are so informative, I appreciate your work so much. I sewed up a muslin of this and thought by looking at it that I could use an extra cm at shoulder for good sleeve fit(shoulder should have been 12 instead of 11). Can I just extend out and extra 1 cm on the shoulder on front and back and re blend the armhole area? Otherwise its good practice to redo. Thanks again very much.

Hi Dee, the across shoulder, and shoulder length are the measure that cause more problem, because we have no lines on the body. But I guess if you square out and the centimetre it should be all right. Diane

Good day Diane, please where exactly can I get the measurement chart? I’ve searched for it and can’t find it. Is it contained within one of the paid content? Also, what is BA? And the pint you used 1/2 of the shoulder measurement; is it half of shoulder to shoulder or half of neck point to shoulder? Thank you 🙏🏽

Hello. What happens if you want to turn the pattern into V-neck? I sometimes experience gaping. Do we also have to reduce seam length by the armhole?
@DianeDezieltoolfully
@DianeDezieltoolfully 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Fermi, when you do deep v neck you should create a dart where the gaping appear, transfer it to your pattern then pivot it into the waist or shoulder dart to eliminate the excess in the neck line, than soften the neck line. Doing that will curve a bit the neckline, but it's better like that.

Thanks...is it no possible to estimate it before sewing?
@DianeDezieltoolfully
@DianeDezieltoolfully 6 жыл бұрын
When I do the pattern, I usually close at least .7mm, but for best result it a good idea to cut in muslin the front and put it on your mannequin to see if you need to close some more. also, for deep v neck I usually close 2X 3mm on the facing ( only the side that is sewn with the neck) This help keeping the neck closer to the body.

Hello Diane, Happy New Year! I've been trying to learn to draft a bodice for 2 months now -- because-- I never found this video before! What is so awesome is that you give clear step by step instructions while showing up how to set up the grid lines to add our measurements to. No one here on KZbin does it better though lots have tried. You can ask my husband who is my main draftsman. You are saving a marriage. Thank you! Diane, could you please make a video showing us how to create a new dart and then move it around to the neck line like you were instructing Fermi Maisela to do? I just can't visualize how to do this. Merci!

hi Diane..... I must say your method is awesome. I own a little shop and I've drafted about 10 patterns for different clients and manipulated it to other styles with no fitting issues at all. you are blessed. I just want to know is there a way to move the bust dart on the neckline without slashing it Pls.....

Hello Sophia, not in the construction, but when your construction is done, you could do it by pivoting when you retrace you pattern. Here some pivoting videos: pivoting : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKKonn2YZ7GSbqs kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJPIhaSIaqx8i5I kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6LFaqd4rpqmec0 Diane

Hi True, the basic bodice is more for garment not for over garment, but I just did a coat block pattern and a matching tailor sleeve and double breast. The coat is the project that I'm doing now so I still have a few video to do metered corner on sleeve, slit on the back, side panel, facing and lining, and the assembling. Diane
