I am not on board with stochastic composition tools. I do like flipping through Scaler 2 bassline and melody ideas based on Chord progressions. Worth a look! Take care.

Record the pattern in the sequencer of the track where the mutater is on. That pattern, then is played through the mutator and you can record it to the mutator after you've edited in the sequencer on the midi track
@farmersmith70572 жыл бұрын
I use Ableton’s Random feature with its Scale feature and create up to 5 mins or so if midi and cut out the best bits and stitch them together (these notes are played with a chord progression to identify melodies). I edit the midi in the piano roll for final touches. I also create unique drum patterns the same way (removing the scale feature). I know this is nothing new but I find it a great way to find new melodies/hooks/drum patterns.

You can then FLIP the order of Polystep and Pattern Mutator after capturing the pattern and go back and forth to modify then mutate endlessly just by dragging the order to transfer patterns back and forth between them...

hey Dave, Happy Holidays my friend. Hope all is well. Great video on this new player. I might just get for myself as a christmas gift. I also wanted to ask you on a different subject. About the Panorama P4 you used to have. Did you ever run into a problem where you would be in the reason sequencer and notice signal coming in thru the highlighted track but you're not pressing anything? Well mine is doing that, where I would see a signal coming thru but im not pressing any buttons on the p4 and so for me to fix that I would have to press any button the P4 and the signal would stop coming thru. Anyway to fix that for good?
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Hey man! I’m not sure unfortunately. I did have that problem. I would probably just try and reset it or reinstall the firmware if you can’t seem to fix the issue.

Hey . gr8 vid... is there a way to get the note/pitch data out of scales and chords with any of these stacks? (i.e... if i play "C" --> scales and chords play C-E-G --> send C midi note data (cv?) as a separate output + E as a separate output + G as a separate output)
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Oh that's an interesting idea! I don't think so. I can't think of a way off the top of my head 🤔 If you figure something out, let me know though! I'm curious now.

That was cool, I think I’m totally going to check that out. Is it free?
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Paid unfortunately. But definitely worth checking out the trial regardless! You could still use it to generate heaps of ideas for later even if you didn’t want to buy it!

What midi controller are you using? I’m using a old novation SL MKII but it doesn’t work well in windows 10, drivers are a bit old now. I’m planning to get something new, 61 keys or more, all budgets considered! I think it looks like you’re using the native instruments keyboard? I also use reason (often in reason sequencer) and ableton so integration with that would be cool. Any help appreciated. Cheers!
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
I’m using the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49. It’s a dream with Ableton. Don’t really use it in reason.

I think I may have identified a workaround to the problem you identify at 13:44 where you say you can't turn off one little bit of the pattern. While you can't do it in the orange mutated result wheel, I bet you can if you use the Copy to Pattern function below the orange wheel. Once it's in the new pattern, you can surely edit it just like you've just made it. This is a pretty rad video, and I think it's tipped my hand to actually buying the player now, since it's currently on sale for half price! At 13:44

the more I watch tutorials on any vst,daw or other here on youtube the more I am convinced that many just have no clue on how to record their mic properly, the mic in this video is recording the room.. so why not first set up your mic the right way and THEN make some tutorials

Lol I'm not using that mic to record anything in this video.

Does this work prior Reason versions? Mine is 1 or 2 generations old…
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure sorry... I would think it should work if you're generation supports Rack Extensions. But may be best to email Reason Studios about that.
@TheBelse3 жыл бұрын
A fully pimped up Reason rig costs ££££ ...thankfully the extra rack items like players are very unique ...not the earth to buy. Very powerful ...needs VST support within the rack plugin when using a non vst environment like pro X. And not having to use a plugin to freeze the midi data in order to get the data in Pro X would be nicer. Otherwise it's Logic and Reason for the win for me. Great film ..off to check how much now.
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out! 🙏🏻 yea I think there’s still a lot of improvements they can make to the rack but I hope they are on the right track!

Hi, is there a way to audition an idea before hitting record? When I add it to a synth and press a key there's no sound
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Pattern Mutator plays back and mutators the idea that you record into it. You can experiment with an idea in Pattern Mutator before recording it into your sequencer. But you have to have something in Pattern Mutator to start with. So you can either drag a preset in, record something, or program something.
@theeurbanlumberjack3 жыл бұрын
Can you route the output of the mutator to record midi data in Reason, as opposed to Ableton?
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure what you mean?
@ioncrops3 жыл бұрын
nah bro, reason can't spit out midi as you know. it's in box. meaning you can just get the final pattern, drag and drop style, or some shit like that.
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
Yea, it would be nice if Reason fixed that.
@msvybe9163 жыл бұрын
I think I get what you asked...use the "send to track" button in the top right corner of the device.

I remember a time when reason was THE shit, now it's THE bullshit Btw Pattern Mutator?! SHIIIII, no, no shit, still bullshit. it's just a cthulhu with a randomize button. Buddy wanna create instant vibes? use Obelisk with that Ableton, fuck reason.
@matthewstuartnz3 жыл бұрын
True. I'm assuming Cthulhu and Obelisk are VSTs? What company makes them? I'll check them out.
@ioncrops3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewstuartnz They indeed are brother. Cthulhu by Xfer and Obelisk by FrozenPlain. Cthulhu is an advanced arp modulator and sequencer, obelisk provides chords in a defined scale. You can chain them and have your whole patterns run wild while you hold one note per chord.
