Are you thinking about making the Trailblazer Convertible backpack? In this video I share with you my experience on making this bag. This is not a tutorial, but a review of this beautiful bag! 😊

I did make the Trailblazer backpack on my 49 year-old Kenmore sewing machine. I also used waterproof canvas for the bag and "outdoor" fabric as the contrasting fabric. Like you, I didn't change the pattern much--except that I omitted the 2 backpack straps. I made the Crossbody strap about 10" longer. For the backpack "loop" on the back of the bag, I didn't put a D-ring, just sewed the back part of the loop firmly to the bag and left the front part loose. I then can "thread" the crossbody strap through this loop and attach to the D-rings on each side of the bottom back as in the pattern. This way, I had less hardware (D-rings and swivel loops) and two less straps to worry about and carry around while travelling. Worked great on a recent cruise as my "personal" bag. I even changed from crossbody to backpack in a flash! I also recessed the top zipper so I wouldn't have the "tail" of the zipper hanging out. BTW, I am using my husband's account (he didn't make the bag!). Gail
