Hello, Nick. Thank you - I'm very grateful for your instructional videos. I'm a very basic kind of seamstress - minor clothing repair, hemming, etc., with very little experience in garment-making, which I have found to be a bit intimidating. Your instructions have broken the process down into what seem to be manageable steps, and I am inspired to attempt to create my own dresses. Thank you! Please wish me luck! Trish

Nick, you have a true gift, not just as a fashion designer, but also with the art of teaching. Not many can explain complex topics in a manner that's easily understood. Your delightful and ingenius insertion of humor is a big part of that teaching gift and really helps others remember your lectures/demonstrations. As an Arkansan, I love when your southern accent/slang breaks through. You make learning an absolute blast! ❤

You are very giving with your knowledge. I'm an old lady now, but as a young girl I dreamed of being a fashion designer (well, once I realized I was never going to be a dancer on the Red Skelton show.....lol.) College of any type was pretty much out of reach, so my sewing was limited to the Vogue patterns I could buy. Now I enjoy sewing clothes for my granddaughter and dolls. To have the knowledge of how to transfer an idea to a drape and then to a pattern is something I've hungered for for many years. Thank you for your kindness in sharing.

@jojoremeny4 жыл бұрын
Your waist dart is way too big !!! It would distort the shape of the bodice !!!. You have 3 main suppression points on the body : front ,side seam and back ..When you are shaping the bodice or pattern you use these areas to dart out the excess measures to shape your body,but you do not equally suppress on these areas. . Many pattern cutters disagree which areas take the most suppression. I use the back dart as the most to take out because of the spine,we are more curved and can take out the most.Next is side seam .The front dart position is smallest area for suppression . You don't need to use tape as it could rip the paper ,use pins. You don't need to use commercial pattern paper ,too expensive,use Kraft paper instead .. You don't need to use Muslim or Calico to drape !! Just buy cheap cotton /poly /cotton fabric that's a good weight Also you need to right angle your centre front neck seam and back neck seam a quarter of an inch so it's straight across otherwise you will get a dip .. I'm a professional fashion designer and Tailor in England and I will be uploading the real easy way of cutting patterns and making dresses and tailored suits. www.jojoremeny.com

Hi Nick! First I am a hobbyist, not a professional or a student (but I bought your book anyway) so please pardon my questions if they seem rudimentary. I noticed in this basic bodice pattern there was no calculation for wear ease. Is that because it was done on a dress form (which for the purpose of the question let's assume the measurements are an exact match to the wearer)? If working with woven (not bias cut), should ease be added? How? Sounds like a video to me... ;-)

Hi Nick.....absolutely love, love your videos. I have a question about the darts (and I hope it is not a silly one as I am new to this). Why do you add a 1/2 inch seam allowance to the darts? Why would you not stitch on your first marked line? I can understand why you need seam allowances everywhere else but this one baffles me. Ooops ok should have watched it right to the end (me bad). I see you are taking the bulk out of the middle and then you actually are stitching on the orginal line as you have that 1/2" seam allowance which allows that. So do you always trim out the middle of your darts and if so why?

When I was little, I mastered Cottenelle and Tape masterpieces for my Barbie Doll. Then I pretty much --- grew into that figure, where ready made garments always had to be professionally altered. Now I am recovering from a major ankle surgery, have had the time, and been following most every seamstress here on KZbin, learning how to sew. I know have the know how, but no experience sewing. I haven't even ran a seam on the sewing machine I just bought! Nick, I am so enjoying your lessons! The magic? You are THE ONLY ONE here on KZbin to show us how to transfer the drape bodice onto paper! Really! You must know how exciting this is for me? You are also the only one who showed us how to draw a Crochie. Thank you for being a superbly detailed teacher! Challenge? Could you design and walk us through a Fashion Dress with side inserts (or multiple side inserts) that really emphasis the waist? Have a wonderful day and Thanksgiving!

What is the purpose of keeping the scissors in contact with the table for? And by the way, I love your videos. You make it very easy and understandable. Out of curiousity, would you do a video of how to read and follow directions in a written pattern?! Many of the terms and how they are written are so confusing to me. And I can't wait to see you do the video of how to copy a manufactured garment. I have several tops and bottoms that are no longer made that I would like to recreate.
