@Room2703Reacts I promise you, Patti Labelle, in her prime, WILL NOT disappoint you. Unlike many of her peers, she not only hears the music, she FEELS the music. Very common for her to kick off her shoes during a performance and roll around on the floor while singing. The power in her chest voice was unbelievable and effortless.

I loved your reaction! I've been watching every reaction video I could find for this performance because I love it so much and you're in my top 2 🙂. As for a Patti performance to watch, I would recommend 2 steps away (Concert for Hope Kennedy Center). It makes me cry every time. She was 79 in the video you just reacted to and about 67 in the 2 steps away video. Another Patti performance is her Aint No Way tribute to Aretha. She was 49 then.

She uses a headier mix to access the high notes now...but still sounds incredible. But in terms of thickness of sound, yes has lost a lot of that kind of power. The massive wall of sound she easily produced when she was younger had so much brute force...just thunderous power. Nowadays her tone is more twangy and the sound isn't as thick and strong. But my god she preserved that voice impeccably well! To sing like this at 80yo is nothing short but astounding. What a rare special talent.
