This combination is genius. Normally Patti LaBelle reaching for all these high notes and belting that soprano would overshadow anyone else in a duet, man or woman…. But Michael McDonald’s voice is so haunting and full of loss and emotion, you can literally hear and feel the pain in his voice…. He knows when to gently pull back and let her explore the tone and play with the notes, then belts away on his turn. When Melodied together, they complement each other beautifully and sound like old lovers still longing in pain.
