Oh my dear Lord, you are SERIOUSLY mistaken. Patti was absolutely offered Fosca first in the original Passion in '94, and was absolutely offered The Witch in the original Into the Woods. She turned down Passion because she'd already signed to do the abysmal Sunset Boulevard, and she didn't want to do The Witch because she wanted to audition for Cinderella (which she did, but didn't get), and then negotiations broke down over billing, salary etc., and then Bernadette Peters ended up getting the part. Do your HOMEWORK!

Glenn Close is born to be play Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard... Every inch of her skin absorbs the character to the tee, from the delirious expression in her eyes to the magical movement of her fingers. Ms Close is the true heir of the magnificent character created by Gloria Swanson. Patti Lupone doesn't even come close. Ms Lupone is too classically trained and Manhattan elite posh to let loose of her trademark Lupone snobby snarky diva persona. She might hit all the notes right but no one comes close to Glenn Close.
