This video is of several things happening here at Windy Hill Foundry from new light installation to my standard foundry work.
The pattess plates are for the Miles Bruton home in Charleston, South Carolina, and it was completed in 1769. This may be the oldest home we have had the honor of contributing to as for colonial/federal restoration. Keep in mind the finish is beneath the skin of clay and sand and doesn't do the appearance justice until knocked off with a wire brush which you will see next week as we turn to molding the capstan for the Tally Ho.

Wow Clarke. That plasma cutter goes through that cast iron like a hot knife thru butter. What an upgrade. Another great video and thanks for sharing!

The older buildings in Charleston used these plates to repair the buildings following an earthquake there. For when it was cheaper to clamp the walls in place than to tear down the buildings, when deemed safe. The locals call them earthquake repair bolts.

We're heading to Charleston in a couple of days and plan to see the house. In looking up the address the spelling is Miles Brewton House, FYI.

Charleston, SC is earthquake prone. The last big one hit in 1886 and it gets tremors now and then almost yearly. In Charleston they would call these earthquake bolt regardless of why they were actually installed.

What you need Clarke is a steel table you can jack up and down a bit. Save your back a little, while still being able to drop down for pouring.

BTW, always amazed at the complete lack of inclusions in the iron.

Hi Clark Thanks for the video Do you get any localized hard spots in the castings where you cut off with the plasma torch?

❤ great job! Make sure you include the name Tally Ho on your version of capstan casting. It is art after all. The bronze foundry did so on some pieces below decks without asking Leo and he liked it.

You need to start wearing a good back support brace support. If not you will pay a price for all your hard work. I'm paying that price now. It's not worth it. Hire some labor.
