Bill Walton is hilarious!! Usually given to hyperbole, Bill Walton is spot on with his analysis of the trade.

+Koh Smoger people keep bringing up championships it's not all about the rings from 97- about 07 they had multiple seasons where they won 12 games or less some of the worst seasons ever even with Pau they never even won a playoff game and a few seasons with Pau missed the playoffs during the Marc Era they won 50 plus games about 3 seasons and advanced in the playoffs That alone creates a foundation for a franchise Lebron haven't won a ring with Clevand but considering there history pre Lebron no one can say It's not a success because when you go from winning 10-15 games every year to 40-50 it's a success really it's only about 6 teams that won rings the past 20 years or so

No, the year they got Pau they go to the finals and if they had a SF they would of beaten boston then. Simply put kobe couldnt guard paul peirce so its funny how everyone said pau was soft but when kobe wasnt guarding rondo he looked pretty soft vs peirce.

Other than the rights to Pau Gasol's younger brother Marc, who would become a future All-Star, defensive player of the year, and All-NBA player with Memphis (but that couldn't be seen at the time), Bill Walton was right...they gave up NOTHING! Pau Gasol played 6-plus seasons with the Lakers and got then 2 titles, The other players in the trade were an aging Aaron McKie (who was just signed to a 10-day contract), Kwame Brown (out of the NBA by 2012), and Javaris Crittenton (out of the NBA by 2009 and currently serving 23 years in prison). One has to know if the Lakers knew Crittenton was a Crip.

+Adam Moreira You cant really say that because obviously Memphis saw something In Marc just because the world didn't see It don't mean It was lopside a Stories not done being written until the players careers over the same with Kobe for Divac at the time It was looked at as a steal for Charolette but looking back People say the Hornets got Robbed but the Lakers saw something In Kobe the Hornets didn't see In retrospect the Pau to LA Trade was even looking back at It the same with KP being drafted by the Nights on Draft Night people bashing the Knicks seemed right but looking back at It the Knicks Is justified

+Ronnie Alston Memphis didn't see anything in marc at the time, he was considered some side prospect that was pau's younger brother playing over sees they were just trying to save cap space in that deal, nobody knew what marc would become.

This trade took place February 2. Lakers were in 7th place in west. They finished in 1st place by April and made the Finals. For Lakers to get rid of their worst player that the Lakers home crowd were booing every night for all his fumbles and turnovers and to turn that into Gasol was the greatest feeling ever and out of nowhere. What made it great was it was totally unexpected. No rumors, nothing.

@Chris Spencer but they never mention one statistical fact about Kwame. It aint about sensitivity its about respect and if you make a career and fo to colleges while disrespecting a teenager . They have every right to have something to say

@Chris Spencer kwame broke it down on why they went after him, he said it was about his draft class coming straight out of high school and college wasn't making no money. So do use the media to go after him and the majority of his draft class that went out of high school.

It wasn't really nothing. Grizzlies got Marc Gasol. They did really well with him. I mean if the Lakers traded Andrew Bynum instead of Marc Gasol they would have gotten 3 rings instead of 2. That whole Dwight Howard Lakers deal which was a disaster for everyone would had never happened.

Man I'm truely grateful the Lakers got this incredible deal off last season. Right around the time Big Drew went down last season I could sense that the Lakers were going to have to go back to Kobe scoring 50 a game in order for them to win. Thankfully Pau came to town and brought the Lakers back to the top of the NBA. Without this great trade I can honestly say last season would have been yet another first round loss in the playoffs to the Suns and quite possibly Kobe leaving L.A.

@Luchini690 it looked bad in the beginning, agreed. But later on I realised it wasn't that onesided of a deal. Cap space, first-round draft picks and getting Marc Gasol. Honestly, for a rebuilding team that is a pretty good deal.
