The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

His "Ai, ai, caramba!" is everything to me! 😄😊 It's great to hear an American song honoring Brazil, and even more of my favourite singer, Paul Anka. There's only a problem: "eso beso" is actually Spanish and in Brazil we speak Portuguese. And, technically, in Spanish it would be "ese beso", not "eso beso". Ah, I love this, thanks so much for posting! "Eso Beso" was one of the rare Paul Anka hits that he didn't write. It was penned by Joe Sherman and Noel Sherman. Paul's record of "Eso Beso" charted at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962. This is the same episode on which Paul sang "The Longest Day" (which was posted earlier) and "You Always Hurt the One You Love" (which we haven't seen yet). Thanks, as always, for Paul Anka!

Crossword puzzle answers brought me here. Anka truly was at the top of his game here. Even though he did not write this song, he wrote others, plus, 6 nights before this appearance, Johnny Carson bowed in as Tonight Show host with Anka's theme song, and that was literally money in the bank for the next 30 years for Paul.

Paul Albert Anka is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known for his signature hit songs including "Diana", "Lonely Boy", "Put Your Head on My Shoulder", and " Having My Baby". (Wikipedia) He's 80 years old. I probably watched this show live. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of my parents' “can't miss” shows. It never occurred to us that most of Ed's earlier singing guests were just lip-syncing. I mean where's Paul's mic.?

In October of '62, the only 'cool' song in the Billboard Top Ten was 'Green Onions'. The Four Seasons ruled, BUT brewing in Liverpool, The Beatles release "Love Me Do/P.S.I Love You...A mere one year later, (October '63) Beatlemania was born with their appearance 'Sunday Night at The London Palladium' TV program. We had no idea what was about to happen, did we?...Paul Anka and his peers would be swept away in the historic British Music Invasion tidal wave. Only The Beach Boys survived and thrived...

@@recordguy4321 I'm looking at the Billboard Top 40 week ending October 6th, none of the great, cool songs you mention are there, unfortunately. In fact, if you look at the entire Top 100, it's nothing but a waste land of the pre/post payola era. Teenagers were listening and buying all the cool stuff, but they never made a dent in the charts. Cashbox for that week at least had 'Stormy Monday Blues' by Bobby Bland at #5...My AM Radio station in Northern Virginia(WEAM) wasn't playing the now legendary Dick Dale either...The 'greasers' in my High School played all the 'hard stuff' at the basement parties...

Exactly!!! We don't speak spanish but portuguese, so "Eso Beso" in portuguese is "Esse Beijo" which means "This Kiss" in English!!! 😉
