I still listen to East West at least once a week. I’ve been doing that since I was fifteen. I’m 72 now. Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop continue to be two of my major influences. Both Paul and Mike Bloomfield died too young. It’s a hard life, not for everyone. On the other hand, there are people like Buddy Guy who approaching 90 are still in good health and playing at their peak. I can’t criticize this band. Those are tough shoes to fill.

I have to say this is incredibly sad to watch. From being one of the most brilliant artist that I’ve ever seen to a former shell of himself just really breaks my heart. I saw some epic Butterfield concerts in my time and I always left the show knowing that I saw something so special. Between 1966 and 71 I saw them probably at least 25 times maybe more. You can tell the drugs and alcohol with the demise of his brilliant talent. His voice is barely passable at this point but yes he can still play the harmonica but not with the philosophy. The real drag of it is is he really wasn’t that old. He should’ve been hitting a peak..The band is just OK considering where he came from in the Titans that were a part of his groups. I’ll just put this one away and enjoy those wonderful albums and if I want to hear them live that Butterfield live at the troubadour Definitely is Representative Of his immense talent and vibe

Only show I have walked out of ever, His half hearted playing and singing plus he was down right obnoxious. I had bought tickets for me and my Three friends. He was an absolute jerk off had his shit miked way up had no choice. This was at my father's place Roslyn Ny. Repetitive riffs over and over sucked. No where his former self drugs booze

It kind of is because it is not in a DVD format. It may have been out of print and once on VHS or DVD at one time because there are other blues concerts on DVD or that are on KZbin that can be put on DVD format. I guess was not able to get the full concert only part of it but there still is a good chunk of the concert you can see and it is pretty good.

Butterfield: even in his declining years was way better than anyone else on the stage. And at his best he was better than anybody. Period. You can't argue with genius. You can try, but who? What harmonica player? What guitar player? What sax player? Nobody. And he did all that on an extremely difficult instrument to play well. Give it 500 years and there may be somebody. We were gifted with his person and talent. That's okay. He borrowed it from black musicians and made it so much better. Still waiting for the next genius. 500 years? Not fair. The bass player had access to notes way lower than Butter could reach on the harmonica. Shoulda gone uptown and play it there. Maybe in third position which He was also very good at. Just talkin', there is no way I was ever that good.

This is A great concert do you have the setlist? I have A good friend of mine who would love to hear this. He was around all these great musicians when he was little. His dad is Ronnie Barron who played the Keyboards for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and was best friends with Dr. John AKA Mac Rebennack. I remember my friend telling me about the knife fight between James Cotton and Little Walter in the basement. My friend's dad Ronnie Barron told my friend to go ask Paul Butterfield to show you how to play the Harmonica so he did then Paul Butterfield said go way kid you are bothering me. Haha! He would always tell me stories when I see him when I tell him what I have found on KZbin or any type of Blues music online. My friend is very talented and plays the Harmonica and the Guitar. I would go see him play live with my friend's band and he is blind. He is a very cool guy. I don't know where you found this but this is pretty cool to see Paul Butterfield. Somehow there is a software to make the quality better or to make it into Bluray. Paul Butterfield, He is how I learned to get a great vibrato and from listening to one of my other friends and Little Sonny from Detroit and listening to Andy Just and Robben Ford's younger brother Marc Ford. Marc Ford said when he had heard Paul Butterfield play the Harmonica he walked in his house and heard him playing one of the records Robben Ford brought home and said that is a Harmonica I want to play like that so he did and that right there is what broke them loose. All these guys I have named are the badest cats in Blues music they are great. Thank You! for sharing.

@@harmonica212 thank you for your story, if you have more stories about Paul Butterfield please share them with us. BTW the right title for the song n.5 is "Done a lot of wrong things" written by Bobby Charles. The song is included in the DVD documentary "Horn from the heart - The Paul Butterfield Story, in great video quality and stereo sound (probably from the original source). The performance of this song and Paul's harp solo are very moving, he had a great soul. I hope they are going to release this concert officially, very soon.

@Zydeco 23 , Sure... I hope it is released very soon too. I will share more stories when I see or hear from my friend if he tells me something new. My friend met a lot of cool Blues musician's over the years. I saw the Documentary and it was great. I plan on buying it. Paul Butterfield was originally a guitar player then he started playing the harmonica and got really good in only 6. months and he could even play it backwards and you didn't know it. Paul Butterfield was amazing. He even played the piano and the flute. That is just plain amazing. Paul Butterfield even used Stevie Wonder's backup band because he liked them so much. He loved their sound. There is also a DVD from 1978 at Rockpalast Germany with Paul Butter Feild and his band check that out it is really good with great guitar playing.

While I am glad to have another piece of Butterfield's musical history available (and this does seem like a rare piece), does anyone else who is familiar with his work think this band kind of sucks, like the worst he ever had? And someone below says the "girls" in the crowd were excellent. Umm...I guess if you are into square mid-West plain-looking women. And poor Paul - sweating bullets due to his alcoholism and failing organs. Oh well, we all evolve and die.
