It's only when you hear conversations like this between Dallas and Paul, two people who played at a higher level that you see the gap between their knowledge/language and that of the average hooper. Doesn't matter how much basketball you watch or content you assume, this kind of stuff is only available to those who were formally trained. Do I understand any of it? No, but it's awesome all the same and I'd love to see more of this kind of content.

Hope Adam Silver instructing play by play commentators to discuss and explain the technicalities of the game more works out. I believe it was RJ who mentioned it on ESPN thatbit was one of Adam's point of emphasis in the off season. So far JJ abd RJ are the only ones who do it in national tv games but it's still somewhat lacking.

The problem, and JJ noted this in his convo with Silver, is that unlike MLB & NFL where this is second nature, basketball is such a fast sport with few natural breaks in play. A well-officiated, free flowing game could conceivably have 4-5 game minutes of play without any dead balls.

You have to use intuition. So for example, his weak hand is right hand. So you would know what they mean with him cuz he left handed. If someone said force him strong side, they mean left. But its just context. Maybe they do say weak is left sometimes for left handed players though cuz its easier for defense to communicate weak is left and strong is right. Just depends on context.

5 guys stand around the 3 point line while either one guy goes one on one or two guys run a high screen or a pick and roll. That literally is the NBA in nutshell. Almost every single team does this all game long. They can talk about whatever intricacies they want to but that's essentially what every team is doing offensively. The Warriors ruined the NBA. You can't hardly watch an NBA game without seeing at least 80 combined 3 pointers chucked up by both teams. Damn near 2 per minute.

The thing I will say about the warriors though. Is that they ran a lot of plays and had a lot of general motion. They didn’t just shoot 3s. And it’s sad that more teams didn’t pick up that part of gs offense. Or try to beat them at things they aren’t good at. Like if boogie never got hurt close to the playoffs. To see AD and boogie eating gs bigs all game would have been something great to see

As a guy who played professional for a couple years overseas, I can tell you the very basics of defensive coverages are actually in NBA2k. Simulation games can actually teach you stuff. Hard/soft catch hedges double/blitz switching icing pick n rolls. Denying passes, giving non shooters space etc
