i use to see Paul Horn all the time at Shelly's Manne Hole at 5162 Cahuenga Blvd. off Sunset. They were sort of the house band. Great memories!

This band was the one that Horn had at Ben Shapiro's Club Renaissance on Sunset Blvd., where the House of Blues is now. Larry Bunker sat in for regular vibraphonist Emil Richards, Paul Moer was the pianist of record in the band, bassist Victor Gaskins wasn't too long out of San Diego and Milt Turner was the drummer.

Second favorite group under Miles. Paul's Something Blue recording is brilliant. A must own recording.

Thank God someone saved these clips. I worked at KTLA starting in the late '60s and wasn't aware of this program. Frank Evans is a legend in LA jazz radio. I am in taken back by each clip in this series. Thanks for saving and shareing this part of jazz history.

That takes me back decades! Great piano solo!!! (I think that is probably Paul Moer.) Thanks for such a great posting! Sincerely, Bill McBirnei

Simply marvelous! Thanks so much for posting.Paul recorded a superb rendition of 'On Green Dolphin Street' with Cal Tjader, in August of 1961. You'll find that on Cal's "In A Latin Bag", which thankfully has finally been re-issued on CD.

This performance of GDS only becomes more memorable - and distinctive by recollection - the more one listens to other interpretations. Paul's treatment of the theme is strikingly nuanced and reveals aspects of the tune you won't recognize elsewhere. There's some kind of "conjunction" between this tune and Cal Tjader's rendering of "Speak Low" kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4O5la2wgsyWpZI - must be the vibe work - enjoy, and tell me I'm wrong if you don't sense it too??
