He had the Libs terrified in parliament sittings. So strong and humorous. Thanks Paul for the tax amnesty you gave us all in 1988. You saved my bacon my friend and taught me a lot about doing the right thing for the country at the same time. God bless the Australian Labor Party of Australia.

I forgot to mention home loan interest rates were at 18% when Keating was PM. The man destroyed the lives of so many people like all Labor PMs do.

No one came close to Paul keating as a parliamentary speaker .I think about those times and right or wrong here was a politician who thought about the country not in election cycles but 5-10 yrs into the future.

Morrision is not even in the same ball park. keating would tear that fraud to pieces. I would pay money to see keating take scotty from marketing on. I can just imagine it, Morrision slowly bleeding out. Like Muhammad Ali playing with a second rate contender. Like a tiger with a mouse.

@@westnblu I just love the fact that Keating was so politically incorrect when delivering his outbursts and one liners. Honestly I don't know any other notable politician from the past 40 years that had the whit to do what Keating could do like a stand up comedian. An interesting fact is that Jeff Kennett, former Victorian Liberal premier hated John Howard but got along famously with Paul Keating when they were both in office.

One would be surprised to find any honourable values present in any of the current parties. We find our political direction by keeping the compass firmly on Americas butt and send out the best grovelers money can buy to agree to whatever posture other countries would like us to take while hard working Australians go to work so they can afford to live in their cars. Todays political arena is nothing short of a circus with so called members that would be lucky to hit water if they fell out of a boat. Paul Keating knew Australia was great. He knew how to set things straight and put what was right for Australia in place. Thinking about who or what runs our country now just makes me tired and sad.

Paul is my most favourite politician, second is Malcom. Sad is the day Paul is no longer with us.

His vision of Australia becoming part of the greater global economy was genius. Dropping all the import tariffs to encourage our exports and has created the wonderful economy we have today. Many items today are far cheaper then ever. Cars especially are cheaper and we all benefit from that. I used to manufacture products and distribute Australia wide. 7 years ago I sacked the last of my employees and now I sit back and import goods that are drop shipped Australia wide. I've never had it so good thanks to import tariffs reduced and only 2 employees instead of 35 and no factory to maintain and just a small office to operate my business. This makes Australia more efficient. I like many other businesses are far benefiting from this legislation change. Long live Labour. Thank you Labour.
