Arrived here in Oz in March 2016, from Dublin, Never heard of this man until then, He has blown my mind with his music and lyrics and I am currently buying every album he has released, Paul is the most amazing song writer I have come across to date, As irony would have it, The month I arrive here, Paul tours Dublin........Typical...But glad I have found Paul Kelly and his beautiful songs
@woopimagpie7 жыл бұрын
Welcome to you mate. My wife emigrated here from Dublin in 1981, about the time Paul Kelly was beginning his career. We didn't meet until 1995 but I didn't waste much time introducing her to Paul Kelly's music. He's easily the best songwriter in Australia, some have said the world. I don't know about that, but he's brilliant, that's beyond question. He's an iconic singer, as embedded in our culture now as any singer is able to be, perhaps a kind of Australian Christy Moore, if that makes sense to you (yes, my wife has introduced me to plenty of Irish music and I love lots of it). Enjoy Paul Kelly and cheers to you.

Many thanks for that very nice welcome Andy, Would love to know what part of Dublin your wife is from, It's not that big of a town :) My beautiful lady has just bought me the Merri Soul Sessions, Just when I thought it couldn't get any better !!, It's on loop in the car at all times

Declan Mc Dermott being irish no doubt you apreciate this man as much as another man with pasion to his music, the legendary Rory Gallagher
@bobpenny9806 жыл бұрын
Same thing happened to me Declan but in 1987. I used to see him in a place called The Tivoli in Sydney. No idea if it's still there. Fortunately the back catalog wasn't so large to buy all in one go back then. The man is a genius with one of the richest voices around. Last tme I saw him was in NYC about 4 years back. He played part of the A to Z tour in a bar with maybe 60 people in it. Top shelf mate.

This masterpiece always brings a tear to my eye. Mr. Kelly is a songwriter like no other. A modern Banjo Patterson. Tells our stories in song better than anyone else. An Australian nation treasure in my opinion.

Paul Kelly should be recognized as one of the words best songwriters. Up there with Lennon & McCartney, Paul Simon, Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Springsteen, Elton, Billy Joel, Neil Young, John Fogerty, Dolly Parton, Burt Bacharach, Neil Diamond and The Eagles to name a few. PK is as good if not better than many of the afore mentioned.

Couldn't agree more with gwheels13 above. PK is simply the best song writer AUS has ever produced! His lyrics are sometimes funny, often sad, deeply haunting, always reflective and honest .... pretty much sums up the Aussie character as far as I'm concerned! Tears of joy, tears of sadness, tears from the raw humanity of his work ... a true Australian great!
