Fischer's opening preparation was legendary. He narrowed his focus to his strengths [King's pawn openings as white and a large proportion of KID as white]. He must have analyzed many 'pawn sac' ideas to gain the initiative. This is all the more impressive when you consider that this preparation precedes the use of computers. Thank you Mato!

just a question. At 6:37 to counter b5 why not do a rook sacrifice by rook from e8 to e1, which is a check, making the white rook in d1 to take it, which can be recaptured by the bishop at c3. the white king then can take that bishop, which is now at e1. then if we move the rook at c8 to c1, white will have to use its queen as a sacrifice. after the rook takes queen and king takes rook we can check the white king with the queen to fork the other white rook. leaving board with a black queen, 3 black pawns and one white light square bishop and 4 pawns. i hope that was easy to understand. i just wanted to know if this was a better line or at least a good line.
@rdhtyagi8 жыл бұрын
Yes but what if instead of taking the bishop at e1, white Q takes your Rook at c8 and gives a check. After black saves his K from check, white can play Be2 to save the pawn at f2.

I'm not very good at calculating ahead but wouldn't rook to e1 at 6:30 be a pretty good move? rook takes, bishop takes. if king takes then rook to c1 and the queen must block on d1. rook takes, king takes, queen b3 winning the bishop and it's rook vs queen ending. i don't think any other continuations are better for white but idk.
@robertjencks36799 жыл бұрын
i guess after bishop takes on e1 then queen takes rook on c1 with check. king goes g2. white would be better so i guees rook e1 isn't so good.
@omarhuge9 жыл бұрын
+robert jencks i think you mean queen takes rook on c8, not c1, and king goes g7 not g2

Question: why didn't black take the pawn on c5 at 0:56?
@MajedAlShamsi9 жыл бұрын
+John Fitch You mean why didn't white* take the pawn? It would ruin the pawn structure.
@GlorifiedTruth8 жыл бұрын
+John Fitch Also, it helps clear a path for Black's bishop on g7. Plus, in positions like this, it's generally hard to hold on to the extra pawn once you take it on c5.
