Watched this four years after this story ran. Mr Magers, I hope you are still clean and sober and doing well. I watched you as a teenager and a young adult and ironically you always struck me as the epitome of the sober man. Success and pressure can lead to disease-alcoholism. So can free time. You looked great in your interview. I sincerely hope you are still doing well. I grew up watching you, along with Family Ties, Cheers and Letterman. Paul Magers, Diana Pierce, Randy Shaver, and Paul Douglas...never a better news crew! I respect you.

I was an intern at KARE in 1989 and went out on a few stories with Paul. A terrific man. Very kind. A "news god" of the Twin Cities back in the day. I hope he's doing well.

I grew up watching this guy. A staple of my youth. He will always be a part of Minneapolis.

You were great to get what we needed in the news. Thank you Paul Magers. And...you will be remembered just exactly how you want. Respected, knowledge and fun.

I always liked Paul, and thought he was a genuine person. What you saw on screen was pretty much what you could expect to get if you met him in person. He seemed to be someone I would have liked.

Nobody better than Magers! Too bad he couldn't end his career here and do a few weeks with Paul Douglas and Randy Shaver.

I would drink a lot too if I had to give people mostly bad news every night on t.v. Imagine being a newsman now, with this creepy pandemic in March of 2020! I always liked him with Pat Harvey and he has a great laugh. I sometimes got the feeling he wanted to crack up at some of the news stories he had to deliver. There was one in which he started with the line "Every man ponders the meaning of a black hole" (in outer space). He was trying to keep it together, I could tell by his eyes he wanted to laugh so bad. Seems happy being sober.
