Paul McCartney Calls for Cannabis to be Decriminalised (1984)

In January 1984, Paul McCartney called for cannabis to be decriminalised in an impromptu press conference at London Airport. The former Beatles member was confronted by a press mob when he and his wife, Linda McCartney, were returning from a holiday in Barbados, where Paul had been charged with possession of cannabis. The musician's deft handling of the interview drew laughter from bystanders.
McCartney's relationship with cannabis is well-established in music legend. The Beatles song "Got to Get You Into My Life" was written by McCartney after he, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were introduced to the drug by Bob Dylan in 1964. McCartney was also arrested for cannabis possession in Japan in 1980, four years before this interview. Initially facing a seven year sentence of hard labour, the star was deported back to Britain after spending just 10 days in a Japanese jail.

“Let It Be” was written by Paul, released in 1970. In 1980 he was busted for #MaryJane in Japan. In 1984 he was busted for #Cannabis again while on vacation in Barbados. I have long felt that Let It Be was an unofficial anthem for the contemporary #Cannabis culture. People may have begun to forget that in the 1980s, it took courage to speak up for our right to use “Mother Mary.” Whether intentional or not, I think Sir Paul deserves acknowledgment for his public advocacy in favor of #Cannabis freedom. “When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom. Let it be.” Not “let her be.”🤔

I'm sure many people agree to what he is saying though, there are many people who believe Cannabis isn't that harmful. I've seen both sides, people who don't take any big damage from it and people who fall into psychosis from it, so it may depend on what type of brain you have to begin with.
