Well, actually to my ears the Beatles 1962-66 is a completely different band from the Beatles 1967-70... The first Beatles was a group of young guys trying to make popular music to attract girls' hearts, the other Beatles was a progressive rock band 😂

The very first form of heavy metal can be heard on the song "I can see for miles" by The Who. McCartney was totally blown away when he heard the song that he wanted to inform The Who that he could write a similar "heavy" song and he wrote Helter Skelter. You you listen carefully you can't deny there's Who' style in it.

A lot of people categorize the Beatles as more or less of a pop music band. Well, you can hardly call Helter Skelter some pop song. It is pure HARD ROCK at its best and written by and sung by the iconic and legendary Paul McCartney.

I can't believe people are still having fights about this. It was indeed Ringo who yelled out "I've got blisters on my fingers!". They took so many takes of this song and Ringo was drumming so hard that his drumsticks started to give him blisters. Being a guitar player I'm sure John was used to getting blisters and his fingers were probably already so callused that the guitar playing for this song didn't bother him.

I remember the very first time I heard this song, playing the White Album for the first time in its entirety... got to Helter Skelter, and I was blown away. Such raw intensity...especially considering that it comes right after Sexy Sadie, which is Lennon being very mellow, and then WHAM! It smacks you right in the face. By today's standards, it's not considered "heavy", it pales in comparison, but at THAT time it was new, heavy, raw, transcending, frenzied, ... and fantastic.

I don't buy into the crazy conspiracy theory, but this performance doesn't do anything to help debunk it. Search youtube for videos of Paul singing this with the Beatles and frankly he sings it entirely different, different timbre (expected to change with age) but it's not just the tone of his voice, his phrasing is different and he's off pitch very often in this video.. How did a young Paul without the help of modern tech like in-ear monitors, etc... pull off such great performances on stage in the early 60s but today sounds like a bad impersonator? I realize he's a symbol and the crowd doesn't give a shit because he's a legend, but putting that aside and putting aside the great band performance here, Paul's contribution to this song is not the best case for "Paul isn't dead" although I'm fairly certain it is the same man, he might as well be someone else.. On the flip side at least he's out there still performing.

@@rmzzz76 im late but i wanted to point out that youre misguided by this PID bullshit. The believers of this bullshit theory says original paul died 1966. But helter skelter was written in 1968 and the so called replacement of original paul wrote it. So the man performing this song today was no other than the replacement. There are so many networks of inconsistencies to support the bullshit theory and it just doesnt make sense anymore for people like you to not consider it a hoax

Somehow I think you're missing the point. Paul is often referred to as the sweet voiced balladeer and John the Rocker. This clearly shows that he is much more multi-faceted than that. This song is sometimes referred to as a precursor to the Punk Rock movement so not quite sure how one would classify it as Love Song but I'm always eager to learn more.
