When I was a little kid I loved this video. So much fun. One of the greatest songwriters along with one of the greatest performers..can’t get any better than that

That's awesome! It's amazing how certain videos or songs stick with us from childhood and still bring joy years later. When you have such a powerful combination of a great songwriter and a legendary performer, it really creates something timeless.

Fantastic choice to react to, Vicky and Peter! Such an interesting song; when it starts out with Paul's part, it sounds like a Beatles song. But then, when Michael Jackson comes in, it then definitely sounds like his style of song. Amazing song by these two legends. There was a short period of time when Michael was first going solo that Paul took Michael under his wing and gave him advice. One of the things Paul suggested to Michael is for him to consider buying music publishing rights to popular songs. Michael liked that idea very much. Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney, in their time with the Beatles, were not very sophisticated in buying music publishing, and, as a result, the Beatles lost control of their massive song catalogue. So when Paul told Michael that he should consider going into music publishing, Michael said to Paul "I'm going to buy your music (the Beatles music catalogue)!". Paul thought it was a joke, and didn't believe Michael. Next thing Paul finds out is that Michael has bought up the entire Beatles catalogue, which means that every time Paul plays a Beatles song, he has to pay Michael for the right to do so. Paul was not very happy about this, and it ruined their friendship, which is very sad. But let's not think about that here. Instead, let's watch these two legends of music work their magic together on this song!

What a fascinating story to accompany this reaction! It truly is an incredible collaboration. Their combined talent made this a unique gem. The backstory about Michael taking Paul's advice on music publishing and the resulting fallout adds an interesting layer of complexity to their relationship. A true celebration of two legends at their peak!

Nice! "Say Say Say" was a hit when I was in high school. Paul McCartney was a member of The Beatles. The blonde woman is Paul McCartney's wife Linda. She was also a member of Wings and she shows up in many of the videos Paul McCartney made back then, including "Coming Up" from 1980. She passed away in the late nineties at the age of 56. The characters they're playing in the video are called "snake-oil salesmen", con-artists selling concoctions, "snake-oil", that promise to do great things for those who drink them but which do nothing or worse, harm them. But because it would be difficult for people back then to see McCartney and Jackson as frauds, the video shows them giving the money to an orphanage. In other words, they were defrauding people, but doing so for a good cause. The video is set in the 1920s before the creation of government agencies designed to protect people from that sort of fraud. Unfortunately, decades of tearing down those agencies have led to the return of "snake-oil salesmen" and millions of people fall for similar scams every day these days. Musically, notice how McCartney sings the chorus and Michael Jackson sings the backing the high lights. Then they switch roles with Jackson singing the verses and McCartney singing the backing high lights.

Thank you so much for the great insight! ❤️ "Say Say Say" truly is a perfect blend of McCartney and Jackson's magic. The "snake-oil salesman" idea is so clever, and the vocal roles switching just adds to the fun! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts! 😊
